Amazon Sr. System Development Engineer, EC2 Commercial Software Services in Santa Clara, California

Description

The Amazon EC2 Commercial Software Services team is seeking a Senior System Development Engineer to create solutions that drive the adoption of SAP workloads on AWS. As a member of the team, you'll design, develop, and own back-end subsystems that solve complex distributed system challenges. You’ll also work on customer-facing APIs used by millions of applications worldwide.

Key job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be actively involved in daily engineering activities, providing hands-on technical guidance and support.

  • Lead architecture, design, and proof-of-concept efforts for end-to-end project delivery, ensuring high quality and simplicity in complex systems.

  • Design, implement, deploy, and maintain innovative distributed system software to enhance service security, durability, availability, performance, and cost-efficiency.

  • Take ownership of complex projects, managing broad scopes with autonomy and accountability.

  • Communicate with customers and technical teams to define technical strategies and ensure alignment with business goals.

  • Stay current with evolving technologies, proactively researching new advancements to recommend and integrate into projects.

  • Apply software engineering best practices to maintain a high standard of quality across all team deliverables.

In summary, you'll play a crucial role in the design and implementation of strategic services, focused on enhancing enterprise cloud adoption, particularly for SAP workloads. In this role, you'll lead and excel with minimal technical supervision, work closely with senior engineers, and have direct influence over the direction of the team.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 6+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 6+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 6+ years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience

  • 6+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 6+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

  • Working knowledge and skills in SAP Domain including SAP ABAP programming language skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
