The Network and Edge group (NEX) at Intel drives the software-defined transformation of the world's infrastructure - in data centers, in networks, and at the edge. The NEX Chief Strategy Office is chartered with both identifying the forces shaping the future and the strategic inflections points they are creating, as well as defining NEX's response to those. We translate strategic questions into distinct initiatives that deliver growth through actionable strategies.

Intel is evolving the data center to provide End to End networking solution; IPU/Infrastructure Processing Unit/Smart NIC is the key component. This job is primarily a IPU Software Enabling and Solution Engineer within depth traditional Ethernet related product software development experience and also the latest IPU networking/storage offload development experience. The engineer act as consultants and provide deep dive technical support to customers in Ethernet IPU product development with backend support from division. The engineer will work on filling the gap between what's currently available to the customer use cases. Significant contribution also result when the engineer acts as a product evangelist, program/project manager, and prepare collateral material as needed to capture methods and demonstrate their results.

As a Solutions Software Engineer in the Network and Edge group you may:

  • Help us define the future of NEX. You will work with subject matter experts to evaluate different strategic options, assess trade-offs, and develop winning strategies that accelerate growth.

  • Think big and be creative. We solve complex and ambiguous problems. In this role, you will guide strategic opportunities, both organic and inorganic, by conducting thorough market and financial analyses. This includes assessing the market, competitor analysis, identifying roadmap gaps, creating business cases, analyzing synergies, modeling 'build vs. buy' scenarios, and calculating ROI, among others.

  • Be a thought-partner. We work closely with NEX business unit leaders as one team, delivering insights that guide product offering and strategic investments. We also work with multiple internal and external stakeholders which will require building great relationships to effectively gather subject matter expert input, align leadership teams, and drive actions.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills in addition to the qualifications listed below.

Qualifications

What we need to see (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 4 years of industry work experience OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 3 years of industry work experience.

  • 4+ plus years of experience and knowledge of Computer Architecture, OS internals and Networking is essential.

  • 4+ plus years of experience with one or more of the following Software Development Skills: C Programming, Device Driver development, Linux Kernel development, Protocol stack development/enhancements such as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, Socket layer development/enhancements and adjacencies e.g. libevent, epoll.

  • 4+ years’ experience with software development in one or more of: Ethernet controller, driver/SDK, L2/L3 stack in traditional Ethernet product, or Smart NIC, IPU, switch/router, etc.

How to Stand out (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 6+ years of industry work experience.

  • Smart NIC, Ethernet, Routing and switching, Telecom, virtualization, storage, compute design

  • Highly knowledgeable in SDK, Driver, FW, OVS, DPDK, SPDK, Storage, QoS, TCP/UDP, Multicast, Overlay(GRE/NVGRE/VXLAN), RDMA/ROCE/IWARP, IA BIOS, BMC, PLDM, PCIe,

  • Experience with Virtualization; Baremetal, Tunneling, multi-tenancy, isolation, and firewalls feature development

  • Development experience in networking driver, SDK, performance optimization and customization in Linux kernel or driver.

  • Experience in Ethernet Controller/Smart NIC /Switch driver development. or experience in Internet/WAN/MAN/LAN Network product Software/System engineering, or experience in Router, Switch and IP configuration/management.

  • Knowledge of SW development in ARM is a plus.

  • Experience with Ethernet silicon/product development.

  • Experience with Cloud Service Provider/CSP(e.g. Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and Next wave

  • Experience with Ethernet silicon/SNIC product application development, networking or storage offload/acceleration solution.

  • Diagnose and triage functionality and/or performance issues. Identification and isolation of problems to application, network stack, drivers or low level API.

  • Experience in one of Network technologies (primarily Ethernet or XYZ over Ethernet), project implementation, network maintenance, support, trouble resolution, and root cause analysis.

  • Experience in development and documentation activities for customer applications and internal API's.

  • Knowledgeable in one of Datacenter and Cloud infrastructures and operations, Virtualization, Cloud Computing, Networking, and Storage, low latency as in AI/ML.

  • Hands on experience with lab equipment as Spirent TestCenter/IXIA, high speed scope, etc.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, California: $144,501.00-$217,311.00

*Salary range dependent on a number of factors including location and experience

Working Model

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
