Amazon Content Editor, Information Data Operations in Santa Barbara, California

Alexa is Amazon’s groundbreaking voice service designed for voice interactions. We believe voice is the most natural interface for interacting with technology across many domains. We are looking for a Content Editor who is equally passionate about clean copy and the emerging world of AI within tech. The Content Editor would join the growing Information Data Operations (IDO) team located in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA.

As Content Editor, you are responsible for ensuring IDO delivers high-quality work. You have an eye for detail, a knack for spotting errors, and a desire to improve Alexa’s answers to customers. You will write concise and engaging copy under tight deadlines. You will edit work for grammar, punctuation, accuracy, and brand alignment. You will review data analysis and research projects, verifying the work of Data Associates to maintain quality standards. No matter the task, you will work closely with the IDO Project Manager and Team Lead to develop and enforce quality measures, and will foster a continuous feedback loop with Data Associates.

Key job responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread copy to be consumed by the end-point customer

  • Research and write informative, entertaining content

  • Exercise quality control to ensure the highest standards of style and writing (grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, brand alignment, etc.)

  • Verify work product before returning it to the customer to ensure consistent quality

  • Maintain and enforce high standards for the team’s work output

About the team

Information Data Operations (IDO) is a team of Content Editors, Machine Learning Data Associates and support staff who help make Alexa smarter and drive efficiencies for stakeholders. We do this by increasing the number of questions Alexa can answer, by improving the overall quality of the answers Alexa serves, and by providing stakeholders high-quality data to make informed, data-driven decisions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1+ years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, English, or related field

  • 2+ years of editing experience

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal direction

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

  • History of teamwork and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done

  • Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

  • High attention to detail, including precise and effective communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent collaboration and organizational skills

  • Competent user level of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $47,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $102,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
