Robert Half Senior Director, Environmental, Social and Governance and Community Impact in San Ramon, California

The Senior Director, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Community Impact is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and overseeing the Company’s enterprise-wide environmental, social and corporate governance strategy, policies, procedures, programs and disclosures. Collaborates across the company with senior leadership and program owners to institute ESG and community impact-related best practices and opportunities that align with the company’s strategic direction. Oversees annual reporting and performance improvement plans for third-party ESG raters, rankers and regulators.

The person in this role will help shape and advance the company’s ESG and community strategy and reporting, including social and environmental programs, policies and key performance indicators. The Senior Director will monitor enterprise wide ESG priorities of major stakeholders, including employees, investors, clients, regulators and community partners and will work to create strategic direction aligned to those priorities and expectations. The Senior Director will make recommendations to enterprise-wide leadership on ESG and community strategy and partner closely with internal stakeholders to understand their priorities, with the goal of advancing the Company’s ESG and community strategy, policies, programs and disclosures. The Senior Director will work to guide and implement programs and practices that help advance the strategy and best practices across the enterprise. This role reports to the Chief ESG and Inclusion Officer. This role works closely with other members of senior leadership to ensure consistent coordination across the enterprise, particularly with respect to Robert Half’s and Protiviti's brand.

Strategy and leadership - 60%

  • Advance the company's ESG strategy through understanding best practices and creating a prioritized roadmap in collaboration with teams across the enterprise to educate on ESG opportunities, identify goals and metrics and recommend and influence change when appropriate.

  • Lead cross-functional groups to support collaboration on programs related to ESG, including inclusion, employee engagement and well-being, community impact, human rights, supplier diversity, and sustainable procurement and environmental initiatives.

  • Prepare materials and reports regarding the ESG program for the executive team and the Board of Directors.

  • Deepen relationships with ESG partner and consulting organizations.

  • Understand how to deliver results for the Company’s ESG program and goals, including Science-Based Targets.

  • Lead implementation along with consultants the software tool for internal data collection and reporting

  • Shape the development and management of third-party reporting strategy, including CSRD.

  • Serve as the primary reviewer of selected third-party ESG initiatives identified as important for the program’s success.

  • Use data analytics and best practices to identify opportunities to improve the Company’s performance/rankings/reporting/credibility through suggested improvements in policy and/or practices of the business and help manage multi-year roadmap to achieve the program’s desired results.

  • Continue to define goals for each business unit across the enterprise, and partner effectively to implement and track progress against these goals.

  • Identify gaps in ESG trends/requirements and identify the best approach to respond to them.

ESG Reporting - 25%

  • Engage with selected third party ESG ratings and ranking groups, (ISS, CDP, S&P Global CSA, SASB, etc.), and monitor and maximize such third-party assessments of the Company’s ESG program.

  • Review and contribute to annual and biannual corporate responsibility reports, (Corporate citizenship report and UN Global Compact report) and investor reports (Annual Report and Proxy Statement).

  • Use data, benchmarks and insights from evolving ESG standards to evaluate performance; own reporting and tracking for ESG metrics.

  • Maintain a calendar of key actions for all third-party ESG reporting activities.

  • Manage ESG RFP library content and support sales organization with ESG questionnaires.

  • Continue to shape the future of an enterprise-wide impact program that aligns with the business and with ESG priorities

  • Shape and drive impact outcomes and best practices across philanthropy, partnerships, volunteering and employee engagement. Knowledge of skills-based volunteering preferred.

  • Work cross-functionally with senior leadership to align community impact programs to business priorities

Cross-functional Management - 15%

  • Work in tandem with communications partners to review and contribute to the Company’s ESG communications, including the company's websites, marketing and sales collateral, thought leadership and press releases.

  • Assist in responding to investor and client requests regarding the Company’s ESG program.

  • Periodically report on the progress of the Company’s ESG program.

  • Collaborate with internal business leads, including senior leadership, and external stakeholder groups to achieve sustainability goals; develop strong relationships and partnerships with such leadership and stakeholder groups.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in ESG or corporate social responsibility, with experience in ESG strategy development and reporting and social impact programs and outcomes.

  • Deep knowledge in sustainability, climate change, ESG topics and current trends

  • Past ownership over the creation of ESG or sustainability reports

  • Exceptional cross-functional management skills; ability to bring people together around a common goal and lead by influence

  • Highly skilled in building and continuing smart and efficient cross-functional processes

  • Strong written and presentation skills for high-visibility storytelling, both internally and externally; adept at synthesizing complex inputs from multiple stakeholders

  • A desire to continue to build a world-class ESG program

  • Significant experience with ESG assessments and ratings; knowledge of CSRD expectations

  • Previous experience in providing multi-year planning for ESG performance improvement using a data driven approach

The typical annual salary range for this position is shown below and is negotiable depending upon experience and location. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus.

$161,000.00 - $210,000.00
