Cytel Associate Director, Market & Business Development in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Along with the Business Developers, the MBD will be primarily responsible for generating new business opportunities through a mix of prospecting/cold outreach/lead generation in support of Cytel’s new business acquisition priorities. The MBD will develop and foster relationships with key customer executives and decision-makers, acquire an intimate understanding of the customer’s business, and create new business opportunities for Cytel by identifying emerging customer needs and formulating the appropriate solutions. Over time, successful MBDs may develop additional responsibilities for account development and maintenance in an Outside Sales capacity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Learn and understand Cytel products, services, pricing and markets. Keep current with internal Cytel plans and developments. Remain current on relevant industry and specialty topics as needed to perform other duties at the highest possible level.

  • Identify target opportunities and customers. Develop prospecting and outreach strategies in support of Cytel business initiatives to drive new business opportunities into the pipeline.

  • Provide lead generation and administrative support (processing CDAs, MSA, contracts, etc) in support of all sales activities for the targeted territory, including creating and maintaining up-to-date company files, electronic records including contacts, quotes and forecast records in Salesforce.com.

  • Provide market and customer feedback for product development & marketing. Attend and support relevant industry conferences and events.

  • Represent the product, services and support needs of the customer base and marketplace to the appropriate line organizations and work closely with marketing and product development to ensure tight alignment with product planning and the development of the product roadmap. This includes presenting opportunities for evaluation that could expand the company’s market and product reach.

  • Schedule Cytel personnel in support of business development activities as needed

  • Provide strategic support in order to grow the existing book of business within select key accounts.

  • Potential to provide sole support of new business development/sales activities within select accounts.

  • Work alongside the BD to support new business and initial client meetings and prepare for capabilities meetings.

  • Support the onboarding of new MBD team members and mentor them through onboarding during their first six months.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Life Sciences, Clinical Sciences or Statistics-related area. MBA or advanced degree highly desirable.

Minimum Work Requirements:

  • Experience in scientific/clinical research preferred.

  • 3-5 years of sales-related experience (lead generation, inside sales, proposals, sales operations, client success, etc.) in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience managing complex situations in global companies with strategic planning and execution.

  • Experience working in a complex business environment with minimal day-to-day oversight.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional people skills and understanding of organizational dynamics. Strong business acumen required.

  • Self-motivated and enterprising with the flexibility to work across functional boundaries as required.

  • Congenial with strong team orientation and the ability to work well with others, especially scientifically minded colleagues.

  • Established connections at director levels and above in biopharmaceutical/medical device industries a plus.

  • Experience creating positive meeting opportunities at senior levels in clinical development or equivalent groups.

  • Strong problem-solving skills coupled with the capacity to understand and articulate complex issues around medical technology and clinical development. Ability to apply these skills to identify, analyze business opportunities in accounts and more broadly in the industry.
