Position Description

The School of Management at San Jose State University’s Lucas College and Graduate School of Business seeks to fill Assistant (tenure-track) position/s in Strategic Management beginning August 2025. Applicants should be interested in teaching courses in primarily Strategic Management and also interested in teaching Organizational Theory, Business and Society, and if applicable Business Law. Research areas can focus on any aspect of strategic management but should have a strong connection to innovation and its role at the organizational and societal levels.

The School of Management (SOM) is home to the Management and Human Resource Management undergraduate concentrations in the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business. The school has approximately 1,400 majors and offers 17 tenured/tenure track faculty, 30 lecturers, and offers courses in the undergraduate program and across multiple graduate programs and certificates. Required Qualifications

• A doctorate from an accredited university and/or scholarly active (SA) status under AACSB standards. A doctoral degree must be fully awarded by the date of appointment in order to start but preferably by May 31, 2025.

• Evidence of teaching excellence or potential for teaching effectiveness in strategic management (primary), innovation, organizational theory, business and society, or business law.

• Demonstrated record of, or potential for scholarly publications in strategic management or related areas and have potential for developing a strong scholarly record commensurate with rank and suitable for advancement.

• An interest in engaging with Silicon Valley management and innovation professionals and connecting our students – largely first generation, economically diverse, and multicultural - to the business community.

• Evidence of awareness and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates whose research focus is in strategic management and is related to innovation will be given priority.

Key Responsibilities

• Teaching courses in strategic management primarily at the undergraduate level with opportunities to teach graduate level courses.

• Developing and maintaining an active research agenda in peer reviewed high-quality journals.

• Engaging with multicultural and diverse undergraduate and graduate students.

• Participation in shared governance at all levels of the university and other service assignments.

• Developing inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement to meet the needs of a student population of great diversity in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation.

• The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Other Duties

Note that all San José State University employees are considered mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and are required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
