Meta Taxonomist in San Francisco, California

Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Taxonomist to support GenAI at Meta, who can think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex taxonomy challenges. The taxonomy team works closely with the GenAI Organization to design, develop, and maintain taxonomies that enable the understanding of user behavior, intent, and model capabilities. We partner closely with technical teams on prompt engineering, finetuning, machine learning, categorization, and annotation.Our ideal candidate will have a background in taxonomy & ontology development, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration, as well as previous experience working with AI. The person in this role will be expected to be an experienced taxonomist capable of quickly expanding knowledge domains and learning emerging AI technologies. The crux of this work is in developing, maintaining, and growing taxonomies for a complex, multifaceted product while adapting to new business needs and preventing duplication. This person will focus on the strategic planning, design, and implementation of GenAI taxonomies to help achieve business goals, such as supporting model launches, new user experiences, and driving internal insights. Taxonomy is a centralized function at Meta, and while GenAI is a focal point of this role, we also expect this person to be willing to shift and work on taxonomies in other areas of the company as needed. The person in this role will also be expected to follow taxonomy management best practices, metadata and vocabulary standards, influence strategic decisions, and build cross-functional relationships.

Required Skills:

Taxonomist Responsibilities:

  1. Understand industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices around AI and use this expertise to innovate and influence models, user experiences, and taxonomy development.

  2. Utilize industry best practices for taxonomy development and maintenance.

  3. Consult with internal product partners to expand our taxonomy to support product and business goals while remaining faithful to underlying structures.

  4. Help build out and maintain a taxonomy program for a product group.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with genAI and building taxonomies for machine learning classification systems.

  2. Experience with a NLP, ML, GenAI, computational linguistics, or related fields.

  3. 5+ years of experience in developing taxonomies/or ontologies to support a variety of systems both for front-end and back-end use.

  4. Experience communicating and presenting taxonomy principles and standards.

  5. Experience with a variety of topic/domain types and complexity of taxonomies.

  6. Experience with systems and business analysis.

  7. Experience with evaluating and implementing taxonomies to support systems such as search systems, content management systems, digital asset management systems, or product classification.

  1. Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Management

  2. Experience with scripting language such as Python or SQL proficiency

  3. Experience with taxonomy management tools and platforms

  4. Familiarity with data science and machine learning concepts, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation

Public Compensation:

$118,000/year to $167,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
