Grifols Shared Services North America, Inc Senior Scientist I, Computational Biology in San Francisco, California

GigaGen, a subsidiary of Grifols, seeks a talented, highly motivated Senior Scientist I, Computational Biology to lead independent research initiatives and perform diverse bioinformatic analyses that support GigaGen’s antibody therapeutics discovery platform, technology development programs, and artificial intelligence & machine learning efforts.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

• Utilize computational biology approaches to analyze large-scale next-generation sequencing datasets, including antibody repertoire datasets

• Apply machine learning techniques to uncover patterns, relationships, and predictive models in biological datasets

• Develop and implement novel algorithms to extract insights from complex biological data

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and execute experiments and studies that integrate computational and biological approaches

• Work with experimental biologists to interpret computational results and guide experimental design

• Effectively communicate complex bioinformatics topics and project progress

Qualifications and Skills:

• Proficient in programming languages such as R, Perl, or Python

• Experience analyzing next generation sequencing (NGS) datasets

• Proficient working in a Unix/Linux/command line environment

• Strong quantitative reasoning, statistical analysis, and data visualization skills

• Experience or interest in developing and applying machine learning strategies to biological datasets

• Familiarity with supervised learning methods (e.g., classification, regression) and unsupervised learning methods (e.g., PCA, UMAP)

• Preferred: experience with language models such as BERT, especially in the context of applying them to understand biological sequences

• Preferred: experience with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch and TensorFlow

• Demonstrated ability to perform large-scale biological data analysis, evidenced by publications and/or a portfolio of work on platforms such as GitHub

• Strong communication and presentation skills to convey complex concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to independently work on multiple projects simultaneously

• Commitment to reproducible research

Education:

  • PhD or Master’s degree, or comparable experience, in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biology, Immunology, or a related discipline

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience is required

The estimated pay scale for the Senior Scientist I, Computational Biology role based in San Carlos, California is $130,000.00-$170,000.00 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
