National Park Service Maintenance Worker Leader (Trails) in San Francisco, California

Summary This position is located in Pacific West Region at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in the Facilities Management Division. Responsibilities Employee must have knowledge of trail construction and maintenance techniques and must be able to recognize existing and future maintenance problems. Can teach and demonstrate trail maintenance and construction methods and techniques to lower graded park staff and volunteers. Performs and leads carpentry and masonry work at a high level of competency, often taking on the most complicated phases of project work assigned to the crew. Performs and leads rigging operations at a high level of competency, often taking on the most complicated phases of project work assigned to the crew. Transports tools, materials, employees, vehicles, and equipment with variety of vehicles weighing under 26,000 GVW to job sites. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You must possess and maintain a current Class C, You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. This position has an intermittent work schedule; you will be subject to call and will have no pre-scheduled work schedule. This position has a mixed work schedule based on the varying workload, and your work schedule is subject to change from part-time to full-time to on-call as workload dictates. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. A Federal employee who is transferring to the National Park Service from another component, bureau or Federal agency and who does not meet the conditions under 5 CFR ยง575.102 is not eligible for a recruitment incentive. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The work requires frequent and recurring inspections and review of work, which requires lifting, walking, climbing, bending and stooping. Incumbent occasionally has to operate equipment so must be able to access equipment. Work situations vary from sedentary to physically demanding work; occasionally lifts up to 80 pounds; heavier weights with assistance. Working Conditions: Incumbent works both indoors and outdoors with temperatures ranging from 45F to 90F. Work may be performed in harsh weather conditions including snow, rain, fog, or high winds. Shelter may be available during these conditions. Work can be dusty and noisy. Paint and solvent fumes can be present. Incumbent occasionally uses ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts to reach elevated surfaces. May be required to work in cramped and confined spaces. Frequently hikes up to 4 miles daily and occasionally up to 8 miles and must be able to do so while carrying a backpack, power and/or hand tools. Work may be performed in high use and high traffic areas under congested conditions Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
