Position Overview

As a Machine Learning Research Intern in Autodesk Research’s AI Lab you’ll apply advanced machine learning techniques to help our customers design and create a better, safer, more sustainable world. We are a team of researchers, engineers, and industry domain experts working on projects that range from learning-based design systems, computer vision, graphics, robotics, human-computer interaction, sustainability, simulation, manufacturing, architectural design and construction.

We are looking for an intern to work with us on machine learning research applied to design. You are a graduate student working with machine learning and are passionate about solving problems and building things. You have experience with generative models, running experiments, and publishing your research results. You have experience with geometry problems with a particular interest in machine learning representations used with computer-aided design (CAD).

Autodesk’s AI Lab is active in the wider research community, targeting publications at NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, SIGGRAPH, CVPR, and other top-tier conferences. You will report to a research manager in the Autodesk Research’s AI Lab. We are a global team, located in London, San Francisco, Toronto, and remotely. For this role we support both in-person, hybrid, and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on an intern research project at the intersection of machine learning and geometry

  • Design and develop machine learning models suitable for geometry representation

  • Process data and analyze feature extractions

  • Review relevant AI/ML literature to identify emerging methods, technologies, and baseline approaches

  • Document and present project results to collaborators and leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing an MS or Ph.D. (preferred) in Computer Science, Computational Design, Graphics, Machine Learning or a discipline in an accredited program with at least one academic term to complete post-internship

  • Broad understanding of machine learning and deep learning

  • Excellent programming and software development skills, with experience in Python

  • Proficient with ML & DL platforms & libraries (PyTorch, PyTorch Lightning, Ray etc.)

  • Experience with version control, reproducibility, and writing reusable, testable code

  • Excellent written documentation skills to document code, architectures, and experiments

  • Experience conducting research and publishing results

  • An excellent communicator and team player

  • Interest or experience in design (e.g. industrial or mechanical design)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud services and architectures (e.g. AWS, Azure)

  • Knowledge of the design, manufacturing, and AEC industries

  • Experience with Autodesk or similar products (CAD, CAE, CAM, etc.)

  • Experience working with distributed systems

About the US Intern Program

The 2025 U.S. program runs for 12 weeks (May 19 – August 8 or June 16 – September 5). All internships are paid. As an intern, you will contribute to meaningful projects, be mentored by industry leaders, and participate in tech talks and other activities designed to support your personal and professional development. Salary Transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience, educational level, and geographic location, and can exceed this range.

For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting annualized intern base salary to be between:

  • $47,840 and $95,680 (undergraduate students)

  • $72,800 and $118,500 (Masters/MBA students)

  • $118,560 and $162,240 (PhD students)
