Microsoft Corporation Director of Network Sourcing in San Francisco, California

Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. Our mission is to deliver the world’s computer with an industry-leading supply chain. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

We are looking for a talented Director of Network Sourcing to help build sustainable advantages through the supply chain. Cloud Sourcing, Spares, Sustainability & Security (CS4) organization within CSCP manages sourcing and supply of IT hardware for the data centers. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Responsibilities

Strategic sourcing management

  • Early engage with cross functional leadership including product design, quality, business teams to determine sourcing requirements for system integrators

  • Foster the partnership with engineering & business partners to identify/influence design and technology selection

  • Develop sourcing strategies to ensure cost advantage and sufficient continuity of supply

  • Define RFQ / RFP activities and direct structural sourcing team to conduct negotiations with suppliers

  • Manage contracting activities with Legal and ensure contract reflect MSFT’s cross functional engagements with suppliers

  • Serve as the escalation point for component supply and/or supplier issues Cost and operations management

  • Identify TCO reduction opportunities and drive supplier for cost competitiveness

  • Understand the cost drivers and negotiate with supplier to deliver exceptional results

  • Run weekly, monthly, quarter review with team on cost and operations KPIs Manage supplier performance and compliance

  • Develop and enable new suppliers o Analyze financial health of supplier ecosystem and leverage game theory to support partnership recommendations

  • MSFT’s central point of contact of supplier relationship in assigned categories o Ensure supplier compliant with MSFT requirements (E.g. security, social responsibility, payment terms)

  • Conduct business review discussions

  • Ensure supplier deliver corrective actions on time from business review / audits Team leadership and scale

  • Set goals and KPIs in alignment with team strategy o Scale team and manage performance

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles o OR equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years experiences in procurement, supply chain, and/or operations

  • Experience in leading cross functional teams

  • Experience in Datacenter Switching hardware and software

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering/ technical background

  • Cloud / high tech supply chain experience

  • Extensive knowledge in hardware sourcing and supply chain

  • Demonstrated track record in supplier negotiation and management

  • Good influencing skills and ability to build lasting relationships across multiple layers in the organization

  • Good communication and synthesizing skills of both written and verbal

Sourcing Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
