Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a business development professional who will support our growing Science and Technology practice. This is an intermediate level Business Development role. The ideal candidate will have established relationships with clients in the region, but we are happy to consider applicants who do not have established relationships with local clients too. Leads with opportunities in communities we serve. This position is in San Francisco, CA.

This position is responsible for new business growth in current and potential markets. In this role, the Business Development Lead works jointly with key leaders and Science and Technology Sector Project Managers. You will develop and implement approaches for identifying clients and opportunities and will support business development activities including market research, positioning, networking, relationship development, proposal content development, teaming, and negotiations.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support sustained growth in revenue within the Business Center by supporting the S&T Principals and other senior staff in business development and marketing activities.

  • Act as a catalyst to coordinate and support the marketing and business development activities for Science and Technology staff for projects locally and nationally.

  • Play a key role in developing specific strategies for client and related event coordination, project opportunity / lead tracking, and major or multi-disciplinary proposals in support of Leadership. Coordinate with business developers, marketers and project leaders in other Stantec offices regionally and nationally to identify and establish synergies for effectively marketing and developing business together.

  • Lead and support S&T Principals and other senior staff in pursuit execution through delivery of all aspects related to the proposal process including workflow coordination, marshalling resources (e.g., subject matter expert, external consultants, and related internal contributors), implementing process improvements, applying effective project management skills for complex project pursuits, anticipating likely risks, putting mitigation plans in place, technical content and quality control.

  • Creates and orchestrates creation of Presentations for Client (and Future) Meetings

  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of Stantec's markets, clients, capabilities, staff, and primary competitors to support the development of pursuits as identified in the marketing and business development plans.

  • Facilitate debrief meetings following project wins/losses.

Business Development

  • Support Leadership to develop business development plans, budgets, and key performance indicators.

  • Drive new revenue growth across all markets throughout BC0672, with an understanding that you are passionate about science and technology.

  • Assist leadership in the creation of effective strategies that moves prospects through the sales process efficiently and effectively.

  • Track all new opportunities and potential client leads in Stantec’s proprietary application pipeline.

  • Develop and maintain list of key contacts.

Research & Strategy

  • Stay abreast of current market conditions and opportunities for new business.

  • Assist Leadership with current market analysis and development of business strategy.

  • Competitor analysis

Community

  • Attend industry meetings, events, and conferences to build a strong network, where needed;

  • Client Events

  • Stantec outreach

  • Grow the Stantec brand in the community.

  • Attend selected conferences and maintain active memberships in associations (such as board posts and committee memberships)

Creativity

  • Proposal Development – creative use of graphics and organization.

  • Client Presentations – creative use of graphics and organizations

  • Assist in highlighting design and/or technical work and awards.

  • Collaborate with Marketing on local strategic pursuits, pre-positioning, and identification of key projects to highlight.

  • Collaborate with Public Relations

  • Push stories with local publications

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven experience developing responses to detailed requests for proposals (RFPs).

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and web-based interfaces.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and in cooperation with a larger team.

  • Must thrive working assertively in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Must be able to research and draw information from Stantec’s marketing database.

  • Develop proposal content working collaboratively with marketing team members.

  • Manage quality of product checking own work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Strong presentation skills in small or large group environments, with proficiency in presentation support tools (e.g., PowerPoint)

  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior management, supervisors, peers, and clients, internally and externally

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or related field

  • Minimum 5-8 years’ professional experience in marketing and/or business development within the buildings industry.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • SF Area $113,100 - SF Area $164,100 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
