About this role

BlackRock’s US Wealth Advisory business (“USWA”) manages the firm’s relationships with US retail financial services firms and their advisors, who ultimately serve end investors. Representing a full suite of strategies – from iShares ETFs and mutual funds to SMAs, model portfolios, alternatives, portfolio solutions, and sub-advisory programs – USWA’s mandate is to deliver “One BlackRock” to our clients.

The USWA Data & Distribution Strategy team, which reports into the USWA COO, occupies a crucial position where business and sales strategy intersects with data strategy within USWA and across the broader Global Client Business (“GCB”). Specifically, this group is responsible for fostering a data-driven culture in USWA and embedding data in every part of USWA’s decision-making process, through accessible and holistic data products, governed by a centralized framework.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will bring your technology skills and innate curiosity around data applications and analytics to help build the foundations of our USWA data product, with a focus on making our CRM and 3rd-party data accessible to relevant teams to enable better decision-making. You will partner closely with members of this team, USWA sales, Global Client Business, Client Data Platform, and Aladdin Engineering to ensure we are “plugged into” broader data platform efforts.

This role can be based in San Francisco (preferred), New York, Boston, or Princeton.

More specifically, responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the development of data-centric toolchains that empower both technical and non-technical stakeholders to access, visualize, and leverage insights from complex datasets. Examples include the Client Data Platform and Wealth Insight Platform

  • Enhance / overhaul manual and cumbersome processes including sales goal setting and sales mark-to-market on progress vs. goals (i.e., Objective Dashboard), partnering closely with sales stakeholders and members of this team

  • Develop and implement a domain-driven data architecture, establishing a data lake using Snowflake across various domains, in close collaboration with Client Data Platform team. Document processes to ensure transferability to other data engineering partners

  • Identify and onboard relevant financial, client and product flow, and Home Office data into this architecture. Utilize this data to address critical business questions and drive improved outcomes

  • Partner with Sales Practice & Operations (“SPO”) India team to build scalable business and management information reporting on these data sets

  • Support in identifying and improving current data management lifecycle with an eye toward data governance and risk mitigation

  • Effectively communicate roadmaps, complex ideas, and features to a diverse audience with varying degrees of technical experience

You have:

  • 4-8 years of relevant experience

  • BA/BS required; major in Business, Finance, MIS, Computer Science or related fields preferred

  • SQL and / or other database / database management platform experience is required with cloud-based architecture experience preferred (e.g., Snowflake)

  • Experience building accessible and actionable reporting using data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)

  • A strong ability to translate data into narratives tailored for different audiences

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments, priorities, and situations

  • An inquisitive and proactive mindset with the curiosity of an investigative journalist and a willingness to learn new technologies as they emerge

  • A team-player mentality, positive attitude, and willingness to lend a hand where help is needed to advance the team’s ability to drive growth and operate effectively

For California and New York City only the salary range for this position is $105,000 - $137,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
