General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Supervisor to lead a multi-disciplinary team of project engineers in support of full system development life cycles in a quick reaction environment. In this position, you and your team will have the opportunity to lead the technical development, integration and testing of new software and hardware solutions for GA-ASI’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) platforms. You will have the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge industry with industry experts to rapidly develop and field cutting edge technology. In this role, you will interface with various functional engineering groups within GA-ASI driving technical requirements to meet customer milestones. This role will also allow you to expand your knowledge of our UAS platforms while affording you the opportunity to enhance your leadership skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determine technical objectives for solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Represent the organization as a prime technical contact within an engineering team for assigned project(s)/program(s).

  • Formulate technical roadmaps and plans, typically long term, for solution development, implementation, and sustainment.

  • Coordinate implementation and maintenance of engineering solutions to include documenting, reporting, and generating technical presentations to ensure viability of the solution(s) in a dynamic environment.

  • Participate in and lead development of new, or expansion of existing, business opportunities.

  • Coordinate and interface with cross-functional teams of stakeholders including customers, contractors, program management and functional engineering groups assigned to projects.

  • Support and oversee proposal development activities including development of program plans, requirements, estimates, and schedules.

  • Support development of test plans and manage the integration, verification and validation of software and hardware solutions through flight test and fielding.

  • Oversee and execute various projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of project and systems engineers responsible for establishing design concepts, engineering estimates, requirements, development, integration, testing and deployment of capabilities on various UAS platforms.

  • Identify engineering design and project challenges and provide leadership in developing solutions.

  • Actively participate in staffing plans, hiring, development and retention of engineering team.

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet establishes deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.

  • Understands and utilizes systems engineering principles of requirements generation, design to meet those requirements, and verification of those requirements to demonstrate compliance.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and, lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on various simultaneous projects.

  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment

  • Must be able to demonstrate successful project management within cost, schedule, and technical constraints.

  • Must be able to work extended hours and travel as required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Software Engineering background is preferred.

  • Experience with systems and software development life cycle

  • Experience with system design/integration and computer networking

  • Experience in leading a small team of engineers
