Amazon Sr. Risk Manager, Recalls in San Diego, California

If so, we are looking for a talented Sr. Risk Manager to join our Regulatory Intelligence, Safety and Compliance (RISC) team.

In this role, you will support the expansion of our global Recalls program and our recently launched Recalls Logistics Service (RLS) program by driving solutions to improve the safety of our customers and enhance the Selling Partner experience. You will partner and consult with domestic and international business, legal, finance, and technical teams to execute recalls, scale and simplify processes, develop robust mechanisms, and launch new product features.

Key job responsibilities

The successful candidate should have strong business, communication, and writing skills, proven ability to drive solutions to mitigate risk, and be capable of working independently in an ambiguous environment.

The successful candidate will also:

  • Develop and implement solutions to improve our recalls processes, tools, and customer experience

  • Provide data-driven and actionable insights to senior stakeholders to influence roadmaps and align on solutions

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and solid understanding of the recalls process and the NA regulatory landscape as it pertains to product safety

  • Continuously identify industry best practices and contribute to the improvement of the Recalls and RLS programs

  • Plan and conduct periodic business reviews with leadership team

  • Embrace the use of data analytics to drive solutions, track improvements and reduce costs to serve

  • Manage several projects simultaneously with precision and accuracy

  • Develop key metrics and performance indicators to track progress against business objectives and measure results

  • Collaborate across cross functional teams – legal, operations, business, finance, data, and tech teams to continuously improve the program

About the team

Our goal is to establish Amazon as the world's most reliable shopping platform for safe and compliant products. We are committed to shielding customers from unsafe, illegal, controversial, or policy-violating products, while enabling our Selling Partners to offer a wide range of safe and compliant products. This role is part of the Recalls vertical, which aims to protect Amazon customers from recalled or unsafe products. We do this by removing these products from the market and supply chain quickly and delivering a best-in-class customer experience for notification and remedies after purchasing a product with a potential safety defect.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience

  • Experience developing and implementing of standards, policies and programs or equivalent

  • Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

  • Experience in project / program management working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment

  • Proven ability to define strategies in order to solve ambiguous problems

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to clearly communicate complex and technical subject matter to a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and evaluate outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent

  • Experience at consulting firms or equivalent

  • Experience working on legal, regulatory, or compliance related initiatives

  • Knowledge of the US regulatory landscape pertaining to recalls and/or product safety standards

  • Demonstrated track record of thought leadership related to product safety

  • Experience using communications skills to create and edit content for internal and external audiences

  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams within a complex international organization

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
