Server Operations Manager

Job Overview: The Server Operations Manager will manage a team that is responsible for maintaining and optimizing our server environment. This includes the management of staff that support physical and virtual servers, operating systems, and associated hardware and software. The ideal candidate will be experienced in ensuring high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the company’s servers, including hardware, software, and virtualization technologies.

  • Work with Security Operations to develop and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure server security.

  • Conduct system analysis, configuration management, and develop improvements for system software performance, availability, and reliability.

  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores.

  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers. Escalate incidents as necessary.

  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications.

  • Ensure the integrity and stability of the server environment through monitoring, analyzing, and participating in the planning and execution of disaster recovery procedures.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to the server operations team; mentor junior staff.

  • Manage and oversee the development, installation, and maintenance of server equipment and software.

  • Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of servers to meet business demands.

  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent server activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.

  • 5+ years of server system administration experience.

  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.

  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.

  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans.

  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.

  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications in relevant fields, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily in an office environment. May require weekend and evening work.

  • Periodic visits to data centers or server rooms may be necessary.

  • Travel to other sites & locations (International & Domestic) may be necessary.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $114,800 to $177,900 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
