MITRE’s Naval C4I & Space Department is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Undersea Systems Engineer. MITRE’s Naval C4I & Space Department delivers innovative engineering technologies, concepts, and methodologies and performs research and development designed to address our Naval sponsors’ hardest challenges. We aim to provide the U.S. Navy and its Partners with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, & Intelligence (C4I) and Space capabilities to operate in all domains. We strive to be a recognized leader for C4I systems engineering and maritime security, a gateway for our sponsors to the whole of MITRE, and the Government’s architect for the Information Age. This position requires creative problem solving through novel applications of systems engineering principles in collaboration with diverse and geographically dispersed teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership in systems engineering to shape requirements, technology assessments, and development and implementation strategies for the modernization and fielding of critical Naval capabilities

  • Serve as a key contributor to or leader of dynamic, multi-disciplined teams that develop technical solutions through innovation

  • Collaborate with sponsors in the application of analytical techniques to address their hardest engineering challenges

  • Clearly and concisely communicate highly technical analyses and recommendations to sponsors and partners in written and verbal products

  • Implement systems engineering principles to develop data-driven insights and mature them into actionable recommendations that achieve mission outcomes for the Navy

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step

  • Active Secret level security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI

  • Knowledgeable in naval undersea operations

  • Experience in one of more of the following areas:

  • Full spectrum undersea warfare related command, control, and combat systems

  • Full spectrum undersea threat systems

  • Joint and Maritime Undersea Operations and Intelligence Analysis

  • Possess the familiarity with Systems Engineering processes required to provide unbiased advice, formulate courses of action, analyze programs, and make recommendations

  • Ability to work independently to learn new technologies, techniques, processes, software languages, platforms, and systems

  • Demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field

  • Active TS/SCI level security clearance

  • Familiarity with Naval C4I & Space systems from technical and/or operational perspectives

  • Familiarity with a range of systems engineering lifecycle activities including, but not limited to, requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment

  • Experience with one or more of the following: combat system, communication system, sensing systems, and /or weapon system design and employment for undersea warfare.

  • Experience working with the US intelligence community

  • Experience in submarine and/or undersea communications

Top Secret/SCI

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$111,000 - $138,500 - $166,000 Annual
