Actalent Senior Scientist in San Diego, California

Description:

• Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to commercialize and promote (through brochure,

web, technical and seminar content) new products and applications relevant to the scientific

community.

• Supports critical customer sites by applying his/her expertise in with multi-color flow

applications; demonstrates a strong solid understanding of Cell Analysis systems

(instruments, software, consumables) to provide product demonstrations, troubleshooting,

assay/workflow design and other technical consultations as needed.

• Provides voice of the customer information source for Marketing, Product Development,

Business Development and other departments. Participates as a member of product

strategy teams as assigned.

• Analyze and disseminate experimental results across internal teams representing diverse

scientific backgrounds.

• Work with the field applications and sales team to track, evaluate and develop application

opportunities arising from interactions with customers

• Work creatively and flexibly within the team to support various external collaborations and

commercial activities, including training sessions, presentations, in-house demos, and user

material generation.

• Manage collaborative relationships with vendors and customers for generation of

application notes

• Contribute regularly to the growing database of technical information and reviews this

information.

• Monitor industry trends to ensure that relevant new technologies can be assessed and

evaluated

• Proactively contributes to and possesses a high level of understanding of product

requirements, industry needs, and patent applications.

• Understands major competitors’ platforms and stays scientifically current and engaged in

fast- moving fields in which our business participates and deeply understand customer

needs.

• Trains field-based and in-house applications scientists as assigned. Provides technical

support at tradeshows, user’s meetings, workshops, and other special Cell Analysis venues

as appropriate. Acts as a technical resource for internal associates. Ensures technical

knowledge transfer between all customer facing teams

• Develop applications with deep understanding of the workflow and customers’ view/

experience in mind.

• Communicate experimental results to internal stakeholders in the form of reports, weekly

presentations, application/technical notes

• Test and revise quality assurance SOPs and risk assessments on equipment utilized for

qualification and/or validation activities.

• Troubleshoot and optimize components related to our cell sorters

• Create, improve and develop SOPs with consistency and clarity

• Lead research project independently and creatively to meet company goals and milestones

• Design, execute, validate and optimize experimental plans relevant to internal product

development processes.

• Run, maintain, and troubleshoot prototypes over various product development cycles

• Coordinate and communicate with multiple groups for scheduling and execution of

experiments.

• Maintain a safe lab environment

• Perform routine laboratory maintenance activities. Support regularly scheduled lab cleanouts and/or implementation of lab organization system (e.g. 5S, Kanban, etc.).

• May perform miscellaneous lab-related and admin tasks. Works with team members to

complete standard tasks and engages with team to support strategic lab space

improvements using good communication skills and initiative.

• Operate and maintain lab instruments

• Perform cell and tissue culture protocols

• Follow good laboratory practices, including upkeep of accurate laboratory notebooks and

adherence to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work

• Serves as mentor for junior scientists and research associates in areas of expertise.

• Lead by example, offer scientific coaching and mentoring to other staff members (training

and scientific support for ongoing projects).

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Ph.D degree in the life sciences with 6+ years of related experience, or BS/MS in related

fields with 10+ years of experience

• Hands-on experience with complex bioanalytical instrument setup and troubleshooting;

demonstrated ability to identify technical issues, investigate, and propose effective

resolutions.

• 10+ years of hands-on laboratory experience with flow cytometry, FACS, hands-on analysis

of data from complex systems cell analysis is required.

• Hands on experience with cell culture of adherent and suspension cell lines is required

• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and tissue dissociation protocols

• Keen attention to detail in laboratory and office-based work

• Highly collaborative mindset and strong work ethic to successfully deliver within tight

deadlines
