Nexstar Media Group Photographer, Chief in San Diego, California

DUTIES:

  • Set standards for the photography and editing staff through training, coaching and feedback

  • Document the performance of team members. Provide praise, discipline and written evaluations

  • Work with News Operations Manager on photographer recruitment and hiring

  • Work with News Operations Manager on planning and execution of remote and special broadcasts

  • Handle photographer schedule

  • Collaborate with news management team to execute daily coverage and special projects

  • Conduct regular meetings with photographer staff to communicate updates, goals and get feedback

  • Assign photographer equipment and facilitate proper maintenance of it

  • Track the care and maintenance of news vehicles

  • Photojournalist duties: editing and visual coverage of news events in a fair, unbiased and accurate manner. Photograph news events, both live and to digital file, for news events and programs. Edit material to match script prepared by reporter, producer or associate producer using in-house or field locations as needed. Work with reporter to get complete stories and makes suggestions on how a story should be produced. Keep assigned equipment and/or vehicle in good working condition and files all required paperwork. Ability to set-up remotes to allow transmission of digital file feeds or live-from-the-field reports back to the station.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the News Operations Manager

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of five years experience in photography, editing and live truck operations. Must have Non-linear editing experience on Adobe Premiere Pro. Requires one to have a valid driver’s license, as driving a news vehicle daily to and from stories is an essential part of the daily routine. Detail-oriented, able to follow directions, and ability to perform duties and make independent decisions under extreme pressure. Business needs may also require individual to be able to work various shifts and times.

Compensation - Starting at $80K per year commensurate with experience and skill level
