Leidos Mechanical Design and Analysis Intern in San Diego, California

Description

The Leidos Space Division is seeking talented Summer Interns to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. From our Space Sensors Engineering Design office in San Diego, California, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective IR Payloads that are hosted on satellites in earth orbit.

Leidos Space Sensors Mechanical Engineering Group is actively seeking college students (Junior, Senior, or Grad) to work at our San Diego facility over the summer break (May, June, July, and August, depending on student availability). This position will allow students the opportunity to experience hands-on technical work in design, 3D modeling, engineering drawing development, and/or analysis using CAE tools and hand calculations.

Candidate(s) will receive mentorship from junior and senior engineers, and the intern will take actual ownership of design or analysis tasks. They will be given challenges that make a real impact on hardware that is delivered to our customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support engineering design and/or analysis activities for DoD customers utilizing a broad engineering knowledge base.

  • Develop conceptual CAD models and produce engineering drawings for production.

  • Develop analysis models for calculating stress response in system structures in effort to validate design.

  • Collaborate with other disciplines to produce excellent solutions for customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Student must be working toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university.

  • Student must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Overall GPA of 3.5 or above is required.

  • Student must be willing to work in-office in the San Diego, CA area.

Preferred Qualifications

Students with the following experience are desired:

  • Experience with CAD software such as Solidworks or CREO.

  • Understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standard.

  • Experience with analysis-oriented software, such as Ansys and/or FEMAP.

  • Desire to solve complex technical challenges and learn from an excellent team of engineers.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $44,850.00 - $81,075.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
