Navy Systems Management Activity MATERIALS HANDLER in San Diego, California

Summary You will serve as a MATERIALS HANDLER in the LOGISTICS DIRECTORATE of NAVAL SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT ACTIVITY. Responsibilities You will safely operate forklifts, material handling equipment, and vehicles with a gross weight of less than 26,001 pounds to transport high-value items within the warehouse. You will conduct thorough pre and post operation inspections to ensure equipment is in optimal working condition. You will receive, unload, and process incoming shipments. You will verify material against shipping documents, including piece count, weight, dimensions, and consignee details and notify the corresponding project manager of receipt of their material. You will determine sequences for loading materials and organizing incoming shipments for maximum space utilization, safety, and security considerations. You will manage storage and space utilization for high-value times, ensuring optimal organization and security within the warehouse. You will perform inventories on material stores in the warehouse in order to submit monthly warehouse availability and usage reports. You will select, palletize, and assemble material for shipment, preserve items, and complete necessary documentation for various transportation modes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. The ability to independently perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Operating a variety of forklift trucks and vehicles to transport materials; 2) Receiving, unloading, and processing incoming shipments of freight and equipment; 3) Checking materials received against accompanying shipping documents, verifying piece count, weight, cube, dimension, consignee, and records; 4) Managing storage and space utilization of high-value items in a large warehouse; 5) Organizing and selecting the location to store materials in accordance with general warehouse plans; and 6) Conducting local delivery and pickup runs as needed.
