Rady Children's Hospital San Diego Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with sign-on bonus! - Emergency Department - Nights in San Diego, California

About the Position

The Emergency Department (ED) LVN is an essential member of our ED team, caring for our medical and behavioral health patients. LVNs support and collaborate with our care team of Physicians, Registered Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Social Workers, Child Life Specialists and other clinical staff to provide safe care for our patients. They assist in the triage areas by gathering vital signs, administering standing orders/medications, rooming patients and providing comfort care. They can assist with placing peripheral IVs, urine catheterization, EKGs, splinting, IV bolus administration, POCTS such as streps, urinalysis, glucose checks, Covid swabs, urine pregnancy tests, Oral/SQ/IM med administration, and assist with procedure holds for laceration repairs and lumbar punctures, and more. They assist with transporting patients to CT, MRI, PICU, the Floor and assist in traumas with CPR, blood retrieval, and other clinical care procedures. Our LVNs are also trained to do intake for our robust behavioral health pediatric population. Our LVNs provide a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. They demonstrate clinical competence in performing, assisting and/or documenting tasks and procedures with excellence and quality, per department standards, regulatory guidelines and within scope of practice, using age/developmentally appropriate approach. Lastly, they help implement plan of care, provide patient and family teaching, follow-up, and discharge (after visit summaries) instructions with excellence and quality.

Each day within the department is different and LVNs may work in several different zones within one shift. Our LVNs are not given patient assignments within zones but instead support RNs within the specific zones. Successful LVNs are flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with changing hats and responsibilities to assist with the needs of the team in a fast-paced unit. Strong communication and being a team player is key! Comfort with de-escalation techniques and managing challenging behaviors is a plus.

Schedule

This position starts on nights (1900-0730), with the opportunity to move shifts as they become available.

About the Department

The Rady Children’s ED is a Level I Trauma Center that consists of 42 beds, including two trauma rooms. We are the only pediatric emergency department within the San Diego region. We have a big team that values strong collaboration and communication across disciplines and is composed of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, RNs, LVNs, Hospital Unit Clerks, Patient Care Assistants, Behavioral Health Assistants, Social Workers, Child Life Specialists, and Behavioral Specialists. We are a busy department, which cares for over 300+ patients each day, with a census of 109,000 patients last year, and a growing population of behavioral health patients.

Minimum Qualifications

CA Licensed Vocational Nurse

IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certification

Associate's degree or Nursing Diploma from an accredited LVN program.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual English/Spanish

1+ year of pediatric experience

The current salary range for this position is $32.39 to $48.06, plus shift differentials.

A candidate’s placement in the range will be determined based on the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
