Our Manufacturing Operations department is looking for an Equipment Manager to oversee the mechanical and metrology teams responsible for all of our automation equipment at our San Diego manufacturing facility:

  • Manage a team that is responsible for the maintenance, calibration and repair of all manufacturing and water system equipment such as lyophilizers, liquid fillers, labeling machines, packaging, temperature monitoring equipment, GP water system equipment and filtration equipment, among others.

  • Manage the design, modification and fabrication of equipment parts to support the manufacturing operation.

  • Manage equipment part supplies and supplies as required. Schedule and oversee the daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks of the equipment and water system mechanics.

  • Develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and cost savings using techniques and tools to improve Equipment OEE and product quality in close collaboration with the Engineering department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the daily activities of the maintenance and metrology organization, including coordinating and overseeing repair calibration and maintenance of production equipment. This spans across multiple locations within the organization and coordination of work schedules.

  • Develop internal metrics, analyze data, and create dashboards that can be used to monitor performance trends, project status, and supplier performance

  • Implement continuous improvement ideas and participate in the strategic Operations initiatives

  • Evaluate performance of maintenance and metrology personnel in all applicable areas.

  • Develop implement and maintain development plans enabling career and technical skillset growth for team members within the leadership structure

  • Ensure the maintenance and metrology group is properly staffed to support manufacturing activities and associated ramp ups.

  • Project management of projects related to metrology, maintenance, repair, and equipment modifications including but not limited to, coordination and supervision of outside contractors.

  • Motivate team members using effective leadership qualities to continuously pursue program initiatives and drive results

  • Planning, coordination, liaison, and execution of the transport of company equipment between/within locations.

  • Devise, fabricate and improve mechanical components for production or quality control equipment.

  • Ensure train and maintain safety procedures and best practices as it relates to the staff

  • Ensure that all work requests, calibration records, and documentation are complete and follows cGMP, quality, safety and regulatory requirements.

  • Train personnel to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production equipment.

  • Ensure staff performs all work in compliance with applicable safety regulations.

  • Practice and demonstrate thorough awareness of applicable mechanical, electrical and biological safety guidelines and standards.

  • Facilitate decision-making, collaboration, and problem-solving initiatives with others at horizontal and vertical levels of the organization to accomplish shared program goals

  • Establish good communication between personnel on multiple shifts to ensure production activities are continued smoothly and production targets are achieved.

  • Drafts, reviews, revises, and executes SOPs, technical reports, nonconformance’s, investigations etc.

  • Actively lead and support process improvement and cost saving initiatives.

  • Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of Hologic's Quality Management System per ISO, FDA and other regulatory agencies

Skills

  • Demonstrated strong emotional intelligence leadership skills with ability to lead organization of 20+ team members.

  • Experience with cGMP, manufacturing, machine operations, and data entry.

  • Working knowledge of safety regulations, federal regulations and other regulations, e.g. QSR’s, ISO, ISO 13485, etc. in a laboratory environment.

  • Experience with automated and semi-automated equipment and processes.

  • Experience with calibration processes and metrology efforts.

  • Detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed directions in a manufacturing GMP environment.

  • Lean manufacturing certification and experience strongly desired.

  • Understanding of manufacturing systems, processes and equipment (documentation, compliance, Safety, change control, time and attendance, etc.).

  • Solid understanding of the product and manufacturing processes.

  • Excellent computer skills.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • BS/BA or equivalent work knowledge and experience

  • At least 5 - 8 years of related experience in a cGMP environment with minimum of 4 years leading a team

The annualized base salary range for this role is $98,400 to $163,900 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs, and market demand.
