Job Title: Electromechanical Assembler

Job Description

As an Electromechanical Assembler, you will build both new and existing customer products. You will work on up to 5 sub-assemblies per week, primarily focusing on mechanical assembly tasks. You will follow work instructions and blueprints for standard products and collaborate with the engineering team on custom assemblies. This role involves assembling components and troubleshooting mechanical systems, soldering electronic components on PCBs, performing various assembly operations, and conducting in-process inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Build new and existing customer products, including up to 5 sub-assemblies per week.

  • Focus on mechanical assembly tasks using work instructions and blueprints.

  • Collaborate with the engineering team on custom assemblies.

  • Assemble components and troubleshoot mechanical systems such as gears, gearboxes, motors, pumps, and more using hand and power tools.

  • Hand-solder electronic components on PCBs in accordance with IPC-J-STD-001 soldering requirements.

  • Perform various assembly operations, including precision soldering, cable assembly, and mechanical subsystem assembly.

  • Conduct in-process inspections.

  • Connect and test units using test equipment such as power supplies and multi-meters, measuring voltage, amps, wattage, and frequency.

  • Compare test results with specifications, record data, and evaluate and repair units that do not meet specifications.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with mechanical assembly and small hand tools.

  • Ability to work with torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools.

  • Proficiency in soldering, wiring, and electronic assembly.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.

  • Strong problem-solving and common reasoning skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • IPC 610 or J-STD 001 certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Ability to verify and communicate inaccuracies in drawings.

  • Experience with medium to high complexity assembly operations.

Work Environment

This role operates Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 3:30 pm, with occasional overtime and one Saturday per month (with a week's notice). Training will last almost a year due to the custom nature of the builds. The company is an R&D-focused organization, involving daily disassembly and reassembly tasks. You will have your own workstation and space, working closely with a small team.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.75 - $46.50
