Job Overview:

The ideal candidate is a team player capable of working independently on compliance and environmental projects at various Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) facilities. Duties include but are not limited to data entry into a sample tracking/reporting database; documenting field observations; and collecting and documenting the collection of asbestos and lead-based paint samples from various Navy and USMC facilities. The ability to write coherent, detailed reports, summarizing field work performed and conclusions based upon test results and observations is also required. Work is performed primarily at Navy and USMC installations in the San Diego County area, although some out-of-town/overnight travel is also required. In the past, work has been required in El Centro, Yuma, China Lake and Lemoore. Computer experience is required. A four-year science degree is preferred, but not required. Experience with environmental sampling is helpful, but not required.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Candidate must be capable of working outdoors (though most work is done indoors) independently and must also communicate well with superiors and with APTIM's Navy & USMC customers.
  • Work will be performed at various Navy and USMC facilities under sometimes challenging environmental conditions.
  • Daily duties also include driving a company truck to work sites, reporting work status and communicating changed conditions to a supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At a minimum, a current Certified Asbestos Consultant certification (CAC)
  • Two years of relevant asbestos and lead-paint inspection experience
  • Four-year science degree preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Organizational and prioritizing skills
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER, current certificate, or ability to complete the training within 1 month of hire
  • Valid CA Driver's License
  • Able to travel within the United States without issue upto 30%.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain clearance to access military bases.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook
