Summary:

Responsible for executing computational biology projects to support Grifols stakeholders (ie. Alkahest Data Science, Alkahest Proteomics, Plasma R&D, Biosupplies). Leads and advises data analysis, interpretation and integration of large scale omics and real world data.

Primary Responsibilities for Role:

  • Executes on cross-functional scientificdesign experiments/ projects that contribute to overall direction of department/ discipline

  • Applies professional concepts to create and contribute to development of methods to resolve problems and advance analysis.

  • Listens and guides debates to help reach a consensus; once a decision is made, clearly communicates and backs that decision.

  • Executes the integrative analysis of both Alkahest and Grifols data sets, mainly through independent study, which are critical and have a high impact.

  • Serve as one of the internal contacts for Computational Genomics/Proteomics

  • Contributes to the development of computational methodologies and strategies in creative and effective ways

  • Creates cross-functional networks with peers and key decision makers and serves as internal spokesperson for the organization for his/her function

  • Attends and regularly participates in national and international scientific meetings

  • May mentor other biologists and scientists to improve the quality and quantity of their work- primary role is an individual contributor

  • Serve as emerging leader in field while sustaining performance and accomplishent

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates autonomy in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Achieves measurable accomplishments that advances the scientific and/or technical field

  • Authorship of abstracts, posters and peer-reviewed papers

  • Regular contributor to scientific literature and beginning to gain recognition externally

  • Monitors and evaluates completion of tasks and projects

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Ability to explain difficult concepts and influence others

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to draws conclusions from new/novel research to create new solutions to critical new problems

  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts for his/her discipline

  • Solid expertise in statistics and modeling, including but not limited to linear and non-linear modeling, multivariate analysis, network analysis, machine learning, and algorithm development

  • Experience with large languge models is a plus

  • Experience with real world data is a plus

  • Strong experience in the analysis and interpretation of omics data

  • Solid programming skills in R or python

  • Significant experience in analyzing and modeling high dimensional biological data

Education & Experience:

  • PhD; Educational degrees must be relevant to position (e.g., bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science or related field applied to biological data.)

  • Typically requires 8+ years of relevant experience

Equivalency:

  • BA/BS or advanced degree with at least 12+ years of advanced experience.

Pay Scale:

The estimated pay scale for the Sr. Computational Biologist, Real World Data role based in the United States (non-California), is $111,000.00-$165.000.00 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in the company bonus pool. We offer a wide variety of benefits including, but not limited to: Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, 9 paid Holidays per year, up to 5% 401(K) match and tuition reimbursement. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data. For California:

The estimated pay scale for the Sr. Computational Biologist, Real World Data role based in San Francisco, San Carlos or Emeryville, California, is $140,000.00- $208,000.00 per year.

The estimated pay scale for the Sr. Computational Biologist, Real World Data role based in all other cities in California is $128,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year.

For Washington State:

Currently, the first year PTO accrual for this role is 120 hours per year. Then, after completion of 365 days of employment the PTO accrual for this role will increase to 160 hours per year.
