CAPPS Recruit: https://capps.taleo.net/careersection/ex/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en General Description: Performs routine (entry-level) work involving advising and assisting veterans and eligible persons with the Department of Veterans Affairs claims process. Work involves collaboration with external partners to include the Veterans County Service Officers and coordination with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Works under close supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. To promote a strong environment, TVC maintains a telecommuting policy. The policy is decided by division and contingent on continued performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Interview veterans and family members to record and assess benefits information to determine client eligibility. Applies and interprets VA laws, including veterans case law, existing statutes and procedures, precedent rulings, and state law in the adjudication process. Prepares and files claims and appeals with supporting evidence for successful adjudication. Advises and assists veterans and other eligible family members in obtaining benefits, rights, entitlements, and other supportive services. Consults with medical and legal staff in the development of pertinent evidence to support claims. Request examinations, re-examination, or opinions to evaluate disabilities resulting from diseases or injuries. Establish relationships with external stakeholders and community partners to connect veterans to assisted services. Document all services provided into the case management system daily and maintain client files. Responsible for the management of daily workload through the appointment booking software. May prepare and submit written reports. May represent the agency at events and conduct briefings and/or presentations on veterans benefits. May conduct outreach activities to identify veterans, their dependents, or survivors in need of claims assistance and other supportive services. Must maintain accreditation with the Department of Veterans Affairs Work hours other than designated hours may be required. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Experience:One (1) year of specialized experience assisting with documentation to determine basic eligibility for benefits or programs. Additional Requirements: A valid Texas Drivers License must be provided within 90 days of hire. The final candidate must be able to successfully pass federal background checks and obtain accreditation to submit claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Preferred Experience and Qualification: Honorably discharged veteran. Experience in filing benefit claims with the Department of Veteran Affairs. Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the processing of veterans claims; and of assessment techniques. Fluent in Spanish Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill in interviewing and advising of benefit eligibility. Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software. Skills in analyzing information and problem solving. Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the processing of veterans claims. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to provide exceptional customer service to our clients, stakeholders, and partners. Ability to accurately review and evaluate documents for completeness and acceptability based on agency statutes, rules, or procedures. Ability to meet deadlines in a timely matter. Environmental Physical Conditions: Normal office work environment, mostly sedentary in nature. May involve walking; standing; remaining stationary for long periods of time; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping, and bending; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Work involves extensive telephone usage and repetitive hand/wrist/finger motions while using the computer.
