Job Description
The Campus CARES program, at Texas A&M University–San Antonio, seeks innovative and engaging applicants for full-time appointments beginning in Spring 2025 (January) for Master Teachers for a campus afterschool and summer childcare program, Young Jaguars. The program is part of the larger Educare San Antonio initiative that will enhance early childhood services across the city and county and provide professional learning statewide. Quality performance will be expected in teaching young children and adult learners, supervision of undergraduate and graduate student employees, and family and community engagement.
This is a grant-funded position. Grant funded positions are time-limited and are contingent upon sufficient grant funding.
Responsibilities:
Plan instruction and oversee a fully-inclusive Young Jaguars afterschool program classroom, including maintaining compliance with Licensing laws, Least Restrictive Environments, Individualized Educational Plans, and minimum standards.
Supervise, mentor, and/or coach undergraduate and graduate student experiences in the classroom.
Work collaboratively with other university offices and service providers as part of the support network increasing retention and degree attainment of student-parents; and, supporting the Young Jaguars program in becoming a valued partner in the university and community.
Instructional, mentoring, and supervisory work, including maintaining compliance with the minimum standards and Licensing laws.
Will support the culturally and linguistically multicultural populations served by the University.
Promote the after-school and early childhood programs.
Contribute to community-wide early childhood professional development through demonstration of best practices and other relevant activities.
Be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the College of Education and Human Development, with community partners, and maintain involvement in campus activities and other responsibilities as deemed necessary.
Work hours vary with the schedule with evening hours expected.
Weekend hours may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
An earned Bachelors in Early Childhood, Elementary, or Special Education, or closely related field.
Four (4) years of teaching experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
An earned MEd, MS, or MA in early childhood, education, special education, or related field.
18 hours of early childhood, special education, or related coursework.
Texas Teacher Certification.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent service to students, employees and the community.
Ability to plan project-based learning for mixed-age classrooms serving children from Pre-Kinder to 5th grade.
Experience working with students with the need for behavior supports.
Experience teaching adults in higher education or professional settings.
Experience in coaching and/or mentoring students in field-based/practicum settings.
Experience with or knowledge of Reggio-Inspired and/or High Scope practices.
Bilingual.
