Job Description

The Cisneros Institute of Emerging Leaders at Texas A&M-San Antonio is seeking an Assistant Director of New Student Orientation, within the Office of Student Engagement, who will facilitate First-Year New Student Orientation and provide support for Transfer and Early College High School Orientations. Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement, the successful candidate will serve as a key member of the Cisneros Institute, supporting student success and engagement.

Salary: $55,000 annually

Responsibilities:

65% - First-Year Orientation

  • Serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning, implementation, and facilitation of First-Year New Student Orientations serving all incoming students.

  • Coordinate new student orientation registration and eligibility.

  • Collaborate with admissions to streamline the onboarding process for new students and maintain new student data.

  • Coordinate orientation program logistics; including but not limited to room reservations, staffing schedules, materials set up, and additional processes.

  • Organize selection, ordering, and logistics with caterers and third-party companies.

  • Develop educational sessions and tour activities for students in small groups.

  • Engage in assessment and reporting processes for programs.

  • Revise programs in collaboration with offices across campus to best serve student needs as well as achieve institutional goals.

  • Coordinate to ensure summer transition programs are complimentary with first-year experience programs.

  • Represent New Student Orientation on University committees, as assigned.

15% - Transfer Orientation

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Transfer Orientation and Engagement for the planning and implementation of transfer in person orientations transfer students both in-person and virtually.

  • Coordinate transfer student orientation registration and eligibility.

  • Organize selection, ordering, and logistics with caterers and third-party companies.

10% - Student Employee Supervision

  • Supervise New Student Orientation office student employees year-round as well as Summer Orientation Leaders.

  • Organize Orientation Leader Summer Training.

  • Facilitate the hiring, training, daily supervision, and evaluation process.

  • Provide student staff and lead mentors with professional development, training, coaching, and support.

  • Coordinate planning retreats for student, staff, and lead mentor.

10% - Other Responsibilities

  • Support The Cisneros Institute in the execution of our signature programs.

  • Support Student Engagement Office in the execution of Transfer Assemblies, Transfer Week, Family Orientation, Family Programming, JagX, and additional office programming.

  • Participate in other university events, committees, and professional development opportunities as a representative of Student Engagement.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field.

  • Six (6) year’s of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in student personnel, higher education, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Enthusiasm for working with incoming students.

  • Working knowledge of orientation program development and major campus program planning.

  • Skilled in development of learning outcomes and the assessment cycle.

  • Ability to make appropriate decisions following campus policies and procedures.

  • Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills

  • Ability to work flexible hours. Some early morning, evening and weekend hours are required. Some hours off campus in the community are required.
