Job/Position DescriptionMedical Technician V (Advanced Certified Nursing Assistant) performs advanced (senior-level) patient care work in a 75 bed inpatient hospital and driver duties. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Primary role is transporting patients to and from various departments in a state vehicle or other departments. Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to dispatchers; drives state owned vehicles to transport patients, passengers, and/or supplies. Conducts visual inspections of vehicles before and after transports and ensures they are clean and in good repair. May be assigned inpatient assignments and involves monitoring patient conditions and providing assistance to medical staff in planning and administering therapeutic programs. Provides age appropriate patient care to assist a patient toward self-care in a safe environment including but not limited to bath/hand and face washing, oral hygiene, feeding, combing hair/shaving; takes and records vital signs; obtains specimens, makes beds, answers call lights and other general care; cleans unit equipment to include but not limited to IV poles, wheelchairs, refrigerator; transports patients to and from various departments; assists in preparation of patient rooms and beds for receiving patient admissions/transfers; participates with patients in divisional activities, indoors or outdoors either on campus or off campus. Obtains and deliver specimens. Assists with patient rehabilitative care needs when necessary. Adheres to the policies and procedures of Department of Health and State Services (DSHS), Texas Center for Infectious Disease (TCID) and the Department of Nursing. Essential Job Functions1. Transportation of Patients: Safe Transport: Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, tests, and procedures within the healthcare facility, ensuring their comfort and security during transit. Assistant with vehicle maintenance by regularly inspecting and maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the vehicle used for patient transportation. Assist patients in entering and exiting the vehicle, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the transportation process. Adhere to schedules and ensure timely arrival at destinations, taking into consideration potential delays and adjusting routes as necessary. Drives state owned vehicles to transport patients, passengers, or supplies. Transport patients to and from scheduled appointments. Adjusts work schedule to carry out long distance driving, these duties may require traveling long distance throughout the state to transport patients. which includes working extra hours after shift normally ends. Determines the most practical route to be traveled while considering the safety of the patient. Adjusts transportation schedule as needed to have patients arrive at scheduled appointments in a timely manner, adapts schedule to meet patient special needs (age related or medical need). Properly identifies patient to be transported and safeguards the medical record. (30%)2. Vehicle Maintenance: Conducts visual inspections of vehicles before and after transports and ensures they are clean and in good repair. Keeps a daily record of all transports and trips. Computes mileage of each trip and records on vehicle cards. Determines the amount of gasoline consumed by each vehicle and computes its cost.
