JORDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT Secondary Dual Language Immersion Teacher (PERM) in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Jordan School District seeks Secondary DLI Teachers (Chinese or Spanish) in Salt Lake County, Utah and the Salt Lake City, UT MSA. DUTIES: (1) Instruct students (7th through 9th grade) in Chinese, or Spanish ("the Target Language of Instruction" or "the Target Language") literacy including listening, speaking, reading and writing, and culture using various teaching methods as set forth in the Utah Dual Language Immersion program model while following Utah Effective Teaching Standards and Utah Professional Practices as outlined in the Utah State Board of Education's (USBE) Utah Core Standards, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities while adhering to contract time as defined in DP342 (Hours of Work-Licensed) with daily attendance at assigned work location; (2) Engage in cross-cultural activities inside the classroom and within the school; (3) Fully participate in Professional Learning Communities and maintain professional competence through in-service education activities required by the District and State, as well as self-selected professional growth activities; (4) Support school and District initiatives as directed by administration; (5) Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that provide differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all students with particular emphasis on: a) Instruction that addresses each student's diverse learning strengths and needs; b) The use of appropriate strategies, accommodations, resources, materials, and tools for individuals and groups of students; c) Improvement of instruction and learning with increased accountability for results; d) The learner and best practices associated with the learning process; e) New developments in subject, subject fields, and in specific subject competency; and f) Annual test data; (6) Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction; (7) Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom; (8) Evaluate student academic growth and proficiency through the use of formative and summative assessments, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports; (9) Effectively communicate with parents and students through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other means to discuss the student's progress; (10) Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, academic, social, and emotional challenges; (11) Create a clean and organized environment that is conducive to student learning; (12) Integrate technology to support student learning; (13) Provide instruction to virtual students both in a virtual and in a school setting; (14) Implement effective practices associated with digital, blended, and virtual online learning; (15) Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per State and District guidelines in accordance with DP311-Evaluation of Licensed Personnel; (16) Attend and participate in faculty/department meetings as required; (17) Follow District procurement guidelines with administrative approval; (18) Understand and adhere to all District policies and complete the annual crucial policy review; (19) Maintain records and required information in a secure location. Maintain confidentiality of all student information; and (20) Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. [NOTE: Work will be performed at junior high schools in the Jordan School District, all of which are located in multiple cities and towns within Salt Lake County, Utah.] REQUIREMENTS: (A) Bachelor's degree in Education, the Target Language of Instruction, or a related field; (B) Hold a valid educator license issued by the Utah State Board of Education, or be eligible to obtain one by no later than the first date of instruction; (C) Have Dual Language Immersion and World Language (in the Target anguage of Instruction) endorsements issued by the Utah State Board of Education, or, in the alternative, be eligible to obtain them within 2 years of the date of hire and pass the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or OPIc, at the Advanced-Mid level or higher in English and the Target Language of Instruction. [The English OPI (or OPIc) is waived if the candidate received a post-secondary degree in a country where English is the first language. The OPI (or OPIc) for the Target Language of Instruction is waived if the candidate received a post-secondary degree in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the first language]; (D) Demonstrable ability to: a) implement effective teaching strategies; b) establish and maintain a positive learning environment; c) calmly handle classroom management issues; and d) work as a member of a team.
