Job Summary
The University of Utah School of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) is inviting applications for a Research Associate position. We are specifically seeking applicants with interest and experience in stroke rehabilitation to help grow our research program in quality of life post-stroke. We will consider applicants with a PhD degree in any related field. This individual will participate primarily as a collaborator on stroke rehabilitation research teams, though other collaborations may be possible. It is expected that this individual will be active in contributing to project development and execution, dissemination efforts (publications and presentations), and grant application submissions. Strong writing skills are necessary, and prior experience with dissemination and grantsmanship are highly desired.
Position Available: Research Associate in PMR ; full-time (12-month) position starting September 1, 2024.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, co-workers, and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Responsibilities
Develops research projects; assists in grant writing, scientific design, study conduct and data interpretation, abstract and manuscript writing and submission, in collaboration with the PM&R quality of life post-stroke research team.
Essential functions
Background experience or knowledge of stroke, stroke rehabilitation, quality of life, or ability to quickly learn and become fluent in the field
Abstract writing (co-authoring), editing, formatting and submission, and presenting at conferences
Manuscript reading, writing (co-authoring), editing, formatting and submission
Understanding of research design, methods (both quantitative and qualitative preferred), and basic analysis
Collaborate with the statistical analysis group
Database management, query, analysis, including internal databases (REDCap)
Work with other departments and entities to help drive projects forward
Perform literature reviews – searches, summarization, distillation
Citation management using associated software (e.g., EndNote)
Assist with continual searching out and securing external funding sources
Assist with writing and submitting grant proposals to internal and external federal and foundation funding sources to support projects
Develop study protocols
Regulatory management, including IRB , conflict of interest, and annual reports
Collaborate with financial research manager for budgets

Preference: PhDin scientific discipline or health- related field from an accredited institution is required. Applicants must have good scientific writing skills and should demonstrate experience in research dissemination and external funding.
