Job Summary

Our research group, led by Dr. Yelena Wu at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator ( CRC ) to join our energetic team. The CRC will be responsible for managing and overseeing a research study on skin cancer prevention among college students in Utah. The study tests new ways to alert college students to their skin cancer risk, with the hopes of motivating their use of skin cancer prevention behaviors. The CRC will work closely with Dr. Wu, as well as the other principal investigator (Dr. Jennifer Hay at Memorial Sloan Kettering) and collaborators nationally and locally. The CRC will also work with a collaborative research team and supervise other team members and students working on the study. Other studies on the team include behavioral research studies (e.g., randomized controlled trials) funded by the National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society focused on skin cancer prevention among children and families, including in school settings and via telehealth. The CRC will have opportunities to work on manuscripts and presentations and to support grant preparation.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in a relevant field of study (see Qualifications below). Prior research experience and knowledge of data analysis methods (e.g., in SPSS ) is preferred but not required. The successful applicant will be able to work closely with a team, have excellent interpersonal skills for working with community groups and other research participants, and have excellent organizational skills.

This position involves in-person duties in our office space at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and on site in community/university settings for research study implementation. Some teleworking is an option.

Responsibilities

  1. Helps to develop study protocols for a new behavioral research study on skin cancer prevention and implements protocols with study participants.

  2. Monitors enrollment goals and initiates strategies to promote enrollment, participant compliance, and retention or tracking of participants who may difficult to reach. Coordinates and performs responsibilities related to research participants including determining participant population availability, developing informed consents and screening materials, screening and recruiting participants (e.g., in-person and via phone), scheduling visits, obtaining informed consent, answering participant inquiries, overseeing study visits and acting as a liaison between participants and the research team.

  3. Coordinates investigator meetings for the research study.

  4. Recognizes, tracks and reports adverse events and protocol deviations.

  5. Manages quality control, completion and submission of study related documentation; prepares reports for organizations and agencies.

  6. Develops and maintains participant databases, including participant tracking logs and electronic data capture tools (REDCap, Qualtrics). Uses Microsoft Office software programs to maintain study records.

  7. Works with statisticians and other lab members to monitor data quality.

  8. Attends and participates in investigator and staff meetings. Advises team regarding specific study assignments and timelines.

  9. Supervises, mentors and trains new or other research staff. Works closely with a team to implement research studies and other research-related projects.

  10. Prepares, submits and maintains Institutional Review Board ( IRB ), National Institutes of Health ( NIH ), and other regulatory documents and research correspondence.

  11. Represents the research program at professional meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a health sciences or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) with two years professional research experience and completion of University RATS Clinical Certification within one year of hire required. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA , HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.

Departments may require IRB CITI Course or IATA DGR training within a specified timeframe.

Departments may prefer a nursing degree for this position, which requires the incumbent to have two years related experience and possess a nationally recognized research compliance certification.
