Job Summary

The Utah Lions Eye Bank, located in Murray, UT, is a nonprofit organization and has facilitated the gift of sight worldwide through transplantation and research since 1972. By restoring vision, cornea donation changes not only the lives of recipients, but also the lives of everyone around them. The Eye Bank Donor Screener is responsible for receiving and inputting all donor referrals by telephone and e-mail; triage and assign referrals to appropriate parties; and plays an integral role in supporting organ, eye and tissue donation.

Responsibilities

The Eye Bank Donor Screener is responsible for the following:

  • Receive and document all information for each potential donor referral into a referral database.

  • Interview referring hospital healthcare professionals to obtain brief information about the potential donor.

  • Manage large amounts of inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner.

  • Follow communication “scripts” when handling different topics.

  • Assign referral to appropriate personnel, and follow-up when necessary.

Problem Solving:

Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the department’s policies and procedures and have working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others’ needs while being understanding and helpful on the job.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Two years of related experience, ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks, expertise using MS Office software, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Database experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
