The Center for Health Outcomes and Population Equity (HOPE) in the Department of Population Health Sciences at the University of Utah and the Huntsman Cancer Institute is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar position for conducting community-engaged dissemination and implementation research. Scholars will work with Drs. David Wetter and Chelsey Schlechter. The Center for HOPE conducts community-engaged clinical, population, and implementation science research that focuses on health inequities, behavioral risk factors, cancer and chronic disease, infectious disease, screening and vaccination, and use of state of the science digital health technologies for both assessment and intervention. Scholars will have the opportunity to participate in multiple NIH, PCORI, and CDC funded dissemination and implementation studies. Topic areas include tobacco cessation, HPV vaccination, lung-cancer screening, and lifestyle behavior change/weight management, primarily among patients who receive medical care from community health centers. Special populations of interest include Latinx, American Indian/Alaska Native, African American, LGBTQ+, low socioeconomic status, and rural/frontier.The program is designed to prepare Scholars for independent academic research careers. The Center for HOPE provides unusually rich opportunities in community-engaged research, and the successful candidate will join an established research team with a large portfolio of federally-funded research. Several new large grants include the following:NCI funded Persistent Poverty Initiative Center (HOPE & CAIRHE 2gether; Social Determinants of Health and Tobacco Cessation)CDC funded Prevention Research Center including a Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (Mountain West Prevention Research Center)NCI Pragmatic Trials in Cancer Prevention and Control (Lung Cancer Screening)NCI Cancer Moonshot (Lifestyle/Weight)Scholars will join a cadre of peer scholars at the Center for HOPE, as well as have the opportunity to participate in career development programs through the funded research centers and programs at the University of Utah. Scholars are responsible for assisting the Principal Investigators to plan, organize, direct, implement, and manage all aspects of the Centers research and clinical projects. Scholars will have publication and grant-writing opportunities, and will share in authorship and investigator status in a manner commensurate with their effort and responsibilities. For interested candidates, there are outstanding opportunities for further developing expertise in implementation science, community-engaged research, and digital health via workshops, courses, and with our collaborators across campus, including an Implementation Scientist Certificate program through the University of Utah CTSI. The mentoring team has an exceptional track record of helping scholars obtain independent funding as principal investigators of NIH funded K, F, and R01 awards. Salary is extremely competitive with excellent fringe benefits.It is strongly preferred that candidates have a doctoral degree in implementation science, public health, behavioral science, or other relevant social or population science.
