This is a customer service position at the J. Willard Marriott Library that works to maintain a welcoming, safe and secure environment for all patrons and employees, and helps to provide effective access to resources and collections. The position also plays a vital role in protecting the librarys collections and cultural property. Assistants help maintain a safe and secure environment by conducting facility rounds, monitor users activities to ensure compliance with library policies, assess and report suspicious activities to the proper campus agencies, and act as first responders in emergency situations, i.e., fire alarms, security alarms, and first aid calls until the appropriate emergency responders arrive onsite. This position is also responsible for providing exceptional patron service in-person, over the phone, online, and through email as well as facilitating the fulfillment of electronic and physical library resources. These positions are responsible for managing patron accounts, cashiering functions, and lost and found, and generally providing a one-stop service opportunity for the library. This position is intended as an entry level position, with the opportunity of advancement within five months of employment after demonstrating consistent and reliable performance.For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check upon job offer.
