Job Summary
Leave Administrator I: Employees and managers’ first point of contact answering routine questions on the organization’s leave programs, including FMLA leave, paid parental leave, medical leave, military leave, and non-health related leaves. Intakes leave requests and insurance claims (Workers’ Compensation, Disability, and Life) and determines employee eligibility. Coordinates with employees and departments to obtain information to process leaves and claims. Refers employees to ADA Specialist when necessary. Enters leave-related data into the HRIS , payroll and/or leave system as needed. Ensures compliance with internal and external policies and regulations. Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter. Requires general knowledge of leave laws ( FMLA , USERRA , WC, etc.), basic skill set, and proficiency. Conducts work assignments as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgement
This position is hybrid, so the incumbent will be required to work at least one day per week onsite, but will also be able to telecommute. An employee hired into this role who telecommutes will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking, and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and sign the University of Utah Telecommuting Agreement

Responsibilities
Leave Administrator I:
Primarily relies on expertise of others to solve problems. Utilizes resources to solve basic problems and answer routine questions
Responds to routine customer questions in a timely manner
Involves or escalates to others most HR issues for resolution
Proficient at primary functions of leave management and understands the lifecycle of leaves and the importance of completing assigned tasks
Maintains accurate data and files
Understands UHRM’s services and priorities
Minimum Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelor’s with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s degree. Assumes work equivalency (1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience).
Preferences
Familiarity with FMLA . Customer service focused. Proven success in managing tasks independently. Team and task oriented.
