Facilities Irrigation Supervisor is a hands-on irrigation position supervising a year-round team of irrigation groundskeepers as well as performing landscaping maintenance at all Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) campus locations to keep the grounds safe and beautiful throughout the year. This position is important to the college because all duties performed are visible and contribute greatly to the environment and overall appeal at each campus.

Irrigation supervisor will be responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems for proper water distribution to various landscapes to ensure efficient water distribution to plants, lawns and landscapes, promoting healthy growth and optimal resource utilization. Requires moderate physical effort, these tasks can include digging, replacing damaged parts, inspecting for leaks, clogs, or malfunctioning components and testing system functionality to ensure they are performing properly and prevent water waste. Work with irrigation technologies to adjust watering patterns and schedules to make certain no vital spaces go unwatered.

Supervisory responsibilities including oversight of employee work, making assignments, performance management, time clock approval, oversight on Sprocket orders, assisting the Grounds Director with employee relations/performance issues, and with other duties, as necessary. Directs the work of full-time and part-time staff.

As well as gardening maintenance duties including transplanting/planting sod, flowers, shrubs, and trees, weeding flower, and shrub beds, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding, litter removal, application of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and general equipment maintenance. Mowing and trimming.

Coordinates with Grounds Director and various departments to schedule repairs or maintenance work on irrigation equipment, including sprinklers, pumps, and pipes and the canal, thus avoiding interruption to campus activities.

Position has a regular schedule but requires flexibility and must be available to work on call for snow removal and sprinkler system emergencies, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Position will be required to work under various weather conditions ranging from heat and cold, rain, and snow. This position is considered an advanced groundskeeper or supervisory level position but will also be expected to perform all duties of groundskeeper positions as needed.

  • Maintain irrigation systems for proper water distribution to various landscapes including installation, maintenance, repair, programming, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Coordinate with Grounds Director and various departments to schedule repairs or maintenance work on irrigation equipment, including sprinklers, pumps, pipes and canal maintenance.
  • Supervise oversight of employee work, making assignments, performance management, time clock approval, oversight on Sprocket orders,
  • Assist the Grounds Manager with employee relations/performance issues.
  • Assist the Grounds Director with other duties, as necessary.
  • Maintain grounds (i.e., greenhouse, turf, garden areas) by assessing specific needs of the campuses, taking into consideration factors such as soil type, climate, plant types and water sources and correctly applying fertilizing, herbicides/pesticides, watering grass, flowers, and shrubs, transplanting/planting sod, flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Weed flower and shrub beds, prune shrubs and trees, weeding, litter removal.
  • Maintain general equipment.
  • Mow and trim.
  • Remove snow and ice on a 24 hour/ 365 day on call basis at SLCC campus locations. Areas include parking lots, sidewalks, handicap ramps, roadways.
  • Ap ply ice melt in designated locations.
  • Operate and maintain equipment associated with snow removal job duties.
  • Perform sprinkler emergency repair work 24 hours a day, 365 days on an on-call bases at SLCC campus locations.
  • Open, complete, and clos out work orders in the Sprocket system
  • Enter time worked and order materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
