Summary This position is located at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. The work involves fabricating, overhauling, modifying, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic equipment. The work requires knowledge of electronic principles; the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause, determine the best method to correct the defect; and the skill to disassemble, assemble, and adjust electronic equipment, including using both manual and automated test equipment. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Maintains, repairs, installs, and makes operational checks on a variety of complex equipment and complete systems. Maintains, tests, and repairs directional finding systems, satellite communications systems, navigational aids, etc. Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs complex electronics equipment and a complete operational system(s ) consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles and practices Responsible for the total operations, programming, maintenance, and repair of the access control systems. Requires thorough and in-depth knowledge of both hardware and software aspects of multiple systems, including but not limited to Medeco XT, CCure, Keystone and SimpleK. Responsible for the installation and repair of all types of locks, combinating cores and to cut keys. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/18/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The employee frequently lifts and carries, unassisted, items weighing up to 40 pounds. They are sometimes required to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working in high places may be required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops, and microscopes to accomplish repairs on miniature components. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
