Job Summary

Pioneer Theatre Company in Salt Lake City seeks a Properties Master, position available beginning September 2024. PTC is a professional theatre company working under LORT agreements with AEA , SDC , and USA producing a seven show mainstage season that runs from August through May. This is a full-time, benefited position. Salary is commensurate with experience. Under the direction of the Production Manager, this position serves as a key member of the production team. The Properties Master collaborates and creatively solves problems with guest scenic designers and facilitates the execution of show properties and set dressing on time and on budget. The Properties Master supervises the Properties Artisan and over-hire. This position requires strong sewing, upholstery, digital imaging, and shop skills. Professional design experience is a plus but not required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Establish props list for each production in conjunction with designers, directors, and stage management.

  • Research design elements according to period and the needs of the production

  • Assist with the day-to-day direction and prioritization of the prop shop staff, coordinating with Stage Management to support properties in rehearsal.

  • Represent the Properties department at production meetings and tech rehearsals

  • Collaborate effectively with designers to achieve their vision for all productions

  • Manage properties budgets for each production and season supplies

  • Maintain PTC properties inventory and facilities rentals

  • Hands-on fabrication of props

  • Purchase supplies

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Shopping skills and knowledge of local and national sources. Ability to establish and maintain established relationships with local vendors.

  • Strong working knowledge of period styles, crafting, floral arranging, soft goods, upholstery, casting, scenic painting, furniture carpentry, and computer skills

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, and lift up to 50 pounds

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus two years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

3 years of professional theatre experience, with a focus on props fabrication. Experience at a LORT theater preferred.
