Turner Mining Group Control Systems Engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah

Primary Purpose: Work with AC and DC drives combined with motors, and/or PLC/HMI Automation Systems

generally of a high complex nature, potentially including scripting, other program platforms, databases, etc. Design,

assembly, configuration, testing, troubleshooting and commissioning of drives, drive systems and/or automation

systems. Industry segments will focus on metals, mining, mills, utilities, manufacturing, plus other industries.

Essential Functions:

o Project types may range from: new product development, design and specification of new subsystems,

continuous improvement of products, repeating previously completed projects, and adapting existing

products to a specific customer application.

o Supports "on-call" requests, including diagnosis and troubleshooting at customer sites. May also include

after-hours calls and travel on short notice.

o Build technical competencies by following an intentional training plan which will include technical sessions

and shadowing of others on the following activities: sales, proposals, design, fabrication, assembly, testing,

commissioning, customer service, plus other areas as selected by Manager.

o Develop, program and implement AC and DC drive systems. Develop a mastery of process knowledge

and skills to include wide ranges of horsepower, complex systems, and multiple applications. Projects will

include increasing emphasis on commercial details and project management including but not limited to:

▪ Speed controlled

▪ Tuning regulators including current, speed, torque, and EMF

▪ Practical knowledge of motor performance and dynamics

▪ Torque controlled, speed limited drives

▪ Drive PID operation for pressure, flow, temperature, etc. control

▪ Hoist controls

▪ High horsepower applications

▪ Discrete/terminal control or communication bus control

▪ Other processes as needed and required for project execution

▪ And/or combinations of the above

o Develop, program and implement PLC and/or HMI systems. Develop a mastery of process knowledge and

skills to include advanced programming and complex applications. Projects will include increasing

emphasis on commercial details and project management.

▪ Complex sequencing and difficult/critical applications – enable and start logic, sequences,

interlocks, fault actions

▪ Analog operations ranging from simple PID to cascaded loop operations

▪ Analog process controls including temperature, pressure, flow, weighing, speed, etc.

▪ Adapt and mix communications protocols with appropriate hardware and software to accomplish

project objectives, when necessary

▪ Operator (HMI) Interfaces – graphical and textual indications plus input methods for operator

control

▪ Diagnostic logic and respective HMI indications, alarms

▪ Simple scripting needed for basic functions, advancing to more elaborate, complex database and

external network connectivity

▪ Coordinated drive system supervision

▪ Other processes as needed and required for project execution

▪ Network and higher level interfaces

o Seek out and develop innovative applications, methods, procedures, etc. to improve operations, services,

etc., thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and/or improving company performance.

o Participate in various job related training opportunities, including technical, operational, and safety topics.

o Support sales, product management, and marketing

JOB DESCRIPTION

Requirements:

• Education:

o Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Electrical/Electronic engineering preferred.

• Experience:

o Five years' experience involving AC or DC drives, PLC's, and/or HMI platforms.

o Work experience involving PLC, PC, and other programming languages. o Work experience involving power electronics and rotating machinery.

o Heavy Industrial, mining, mills and utilities experience is a plus.
