Incumbents serve as experts and have statewide responsibility in conducting, supervising and/or directing medico-legal investigations and examinations, including autopsies and examinations on deceased individuals whose deaths fall under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Medical Examiner. Incumbents prepare written reports regarding case findings, including the interpretation and findings, and issues official death certificate and final report ruling as to cause and manner of death. Coordinates ancillary testing, explaining results to families, law enforcement personnel and attorneys. Provides expert testimony in court, depositions, pre-trial reviews and other proceedings.
