Job Summary

The Office of Admissions looks forward to welcoming a new Assistant Director for Graduate Admissions Operations. This position supervises a group of in-person and remote application evaluators and customer service professionals who are thoughtful and dedicated, espousing a strong sense of responsibility to the students and institution we serve. We seek a leader with experience in admissions, enrollment management, and/or student services who enjoys supporting highly-engaged staff, overseeing major processes, and navigating complex and sometimes competing objectives. The Assistant Director for Graduate Admissions Operations reports to the Senior Associate Director for Admissions Operations and works closely with a wide swath of university partners to meet shared goals. Ideal candidates are patient, strategic, collaborative, confident, and flexible.

Responsibilities

  1. Meet regularly with staff to ensure they have the support, knowledge, and tools needed to successfully do their work. Assess related training needs and coordinate training programs to meet those needs.

  2. Communicate changes in processes, policies, and/or priorities to team members and campus partners.

  3. Collaborate with University partners, departments and offices to better align application and enrollment processes.

  4. Propose ways to improve the graduate applicant experience. Identify challenges in meeting goals and propose solutions.

  5. Assist in setting short and long-term goals for the Graduate Admissions area and Operations team. Establish internal objectives and implement procedures to meet goals. Evaluate effectiveness and provide periodic progress reports.

  6. Recruit, hire, and supervise full-time and part-time employees, including student clerks.

  7. Connect daily with Area Supervisors to support their work managing the workflow.

  8. Work closely with the other members of the Operations Management team to support an office culture of accountability and empathy.

  9. Assist with review of graduate applications when needed (in rare occasions).

  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.
