Manager, Molding Process Engineering

Position Summary The Molding Engineering Manager will manage the ICU Molding Engineering Department that include liquid injection molding and thermoplastic injection molding. The Molding Manager is a working manager that will undertake critical projects, manager, and prioritize. The key responsibility of this position is to identify opportunities for improvements, reduce waste and mitigate production risk, provide guidance for robust mold validations, identify and document best practices, drive department and plantwide goals, support projects and take action while adhering to defined procedures. The incumbent will also liaise with the Tooling Engineering Department, Project Management, Product Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments for production support, engineering projects, and continuous improvements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Func tional area tasks and responsibilities • Lead the Molding Eng. Team of 8-10 individuals with self-example of high-level achievements. • Drive toward project timeliness, publish schedules and maintain accountability with partnering departments • Own the responsibility for new tools once they arrive at the factory and until transferred to production partnering with New tooling, Sustaining tooling area and Production leadership. • Own the responsibility for existing tools in terms of process improvements, cycle time optimization and support of engineering driven changes. • Be a SME for molding in the factory. Mentor and cross-train engineers. • Support implementation of best practices across the organization. • Optimize Molding Validation Procedures with involvement from other functional departments • Take a lead role in in Plant KPI, OEE improvement, Scrap reduction, Contribution Margin's Projects • Utilizes effective judgment in notifying the Molding Production Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Facility Manager, and others of serious matters related to safety, personnel or operational deficiencies or emergencies • Coordinate activities to ensure departmental compliance to all Federal, State, Local and Company regulatory requirements. These elements include FDA, EPA, OSHA, ISO, EEOC and Company policies relative to the manufacture of product, lot control requirements, documentation requirements, housekeeping, preventative maintenance, calibration, associate training and safety (equipment, associate and material). • Perform these and other duties as necessary or required, the inclusion of which will not alter the basic scope of the position
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
• Scientific Injection Molding training/certification or proof of understanding of the model; process, tooling, part design, materials, and equipme nt • Understanding of strength of materials, automation, thermoplastic and LSR injection molding, part assembly, fixturing, testing, and process control techniques • Risk Management, Six-Sigma Methodology (DOE, Process Capability, Gage R&R, etc.).Knowledge of statistics • Knowledge of the Medical Device Industry and familiarity with FDA QSR regulations • Knowledge of CAD, MOLD FLOW, engineering plastics • Must be a creative problem solver with the ability to create Schedule Systems in Molding Processing Department • Experience with capital equipment and customer support is required • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology • 15 years of experience in thermoplastic injection molding, part of it can be managerial. Candidate can be someone currently in a senior role in molding engineering or rel ated and looking fo r upward mobility in his or her career. • Advanced Degree may substitute for experience
Minimum Qualifications • Must be 18 years of age
Travel Requirements • Typically requires travel less than 10% of the time
Physical Requirements and Work Environment • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines • Work is performed in a clean room environment • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time • Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 25 lbs.
