The Idaho Department of Fish is seeking a Fish Screen Tender. This position will be located at our Salmon Regional Officer located in Salmon, ID. This position is an 8-month benefited temporary position and will work 40 hours a week from approximately mid-March through mid-November. Work schedules may include weekends and holidays.

\ What We Offer:

General Information:

With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents for these positions should be able to lift equipment, heavy tree limbs, and debris weighing up to 80 pounds an also be able to walk along and work from narrow planking over moving water; wade in water above waist level; climb in and out of concrete structures that may be up to four feet deep; shovel dirt and or mud for hours at a time; walk and work on slippery uneven ground; frequent travel and working alone in isolated areas in inclement weather conditions is required. Weekend work is required.

\ Responsibilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of fish screens, bypass facilities, traps, and related work.
  • Maintenance or repairs of fish screens, bypass facilities, traps, or other related items.
  • Obtain and record canal and ditch flow measurements.
  • Records maintenance assessments of access roads, fish screen facilities and related equipment.
  • Operates light trucks, chain saw, weed cutters, hydro-seeders, chipping machine, and small hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)

  • Some knowledge of mechanical concepts necessary to maintain equipment used.
  • Experience operating light trucks, chainsaws, gas weed eaters and other power tools.
  • Experience following oral and written instructions, policies, and pr cedures
  • Experience recording data.
  • Possess a valid drivers license.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have some knowledge about the operation and maintenance of different types of fish screens, National Marine Fishers Service (NMFS) fish screen criteria and Idaho fish passage laws as well as Idaho fish passage laws. Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to candidates who have this experience.
