DUTIES: As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (NGT5247000), GS-2210-11, you will function as a technical specialist on issues relating to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network. The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the supports the state's wide area command and control integrated network. Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. No special demands are required to perform the work. Working Environment: The work is performed in a typical office setting. Special safety precautions are not required. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicant must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least ONE (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower-level GS-09 or the equivalent THIRTY-SIX (36) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as performing a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks; executing procedures and coordinating corrective action to optimize network performance; installing, configuring and monitoring tested and evaluated software packages that provide performance measurements of the WAN/LAN; implementing the standard configuration software loads for all network devices; utilizing benchmarks and performance measurement and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload; working with technical support personnel in resolving critical problems; using remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files; configuring hubs and switches; monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes and upgrades. Education SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited college or university will satisfy the requirements for 3 months of specialized experience. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Courses must be directly related to the work of the position. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Copy of official/student transcripts showing conferred Degree must be included in order to receive credit for education. Unofficial transcripts from internet or with alterations will not be considered. To receive credit for education the information must be included in the education section of the Resume.
