POSITION DESCRIPTION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general direction; performs work in technical field and office engineering work relating to sanitary sewer,

water, street, traffic control, and storm water projects. Work varies requiring interpretive judgement within

prescribed standards and procedures.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

o Reviews plans and specifications for both private developments and public works projects for compliance with

pertinent codes and accepted engineering practices; conducts subsequent field inspections to assure

compliance with the approved plans and specifications; actively involved in the development review process.

o Assists with the implementation and management of a storm water program; reviews and prepares complex

calculations for drainage studies and hydraulic water modeling; develops technical construction plans and

specifications for installation of water lines, sewer lines, and street and drainage improvements.

o Prepares engineering estimates of public works projects; assists with the preparation of engineering feasibility

reports; assists with the assignment of addresses.

o Prepares and reviews traffic control related analysis; works with Computer-aided drafting and design (CADD),

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other technical software systems.

o Assists with coordination of projects with other departments, local, state, and federal agencies.

o Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:

None.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the following:

o Bachelors Degree in Engineering from ABET accredited university, with a preference for the civil

discipline.

o Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas or the ability to acquire it within six (6)

months of appointment.

o Interim Engineer (IE) certificate preferred

o One (1) year minimum design experience on civil engineering projects in the private sector

preferred.

o Must possess a valid Kansas drivers license.
