Job Title: QA Supervisor

Job Description

This position reports to the Food Safety and Quality Manager and will directly supervise employees in the QA Lab. The QA Supervisor carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. This role involves interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and rewarding and disciplining employees. The Quality Assurance Supervisor will cover for the FSQM when necessary and is responsible for implementing and continuously improving quality programs at the Elk Grove Village facility.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees in the QA Lab.

  • Interview, hire, and train employees.

  • Plan, assign, and direct work.

  • Appraise performance and provide rewards and discipline as needed.

  • Implement and continuously improve quality programs.

  • Identify and resolve problems related to food safety and quality.

  • Report food safety/quality issues to the FSQM or management team.

  • Implement various components of the quality assurance program, including data analysis, systems evaluation, product assessment, and quality technology.

  • Direct inspection of hardware and systems audits to ensure proper application of management system procedures.

  • Conduct raw material, in-process, and finished goods quality inspections.

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral Spanish.

  • Direct and advise personnel on special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of product materials.

  • Compile and analyze test information to determine the operating efficiency of processes or equipment and diagnose malfunctions.

  • Investigate complaints on existing products and respond to vendors or customers.

  • Establish or adjust work procedures to meet testing schedules.

  • Train lab group on safety topics, quality procedures, and business updates.

  • Participate in and support corporate and plant initiatives including GMP, HACCP, SQF (as a practitioner), GQMS, KMM, LIMS, and others as assigned.

  • Participate in and/or facilitate customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.

Essential Skills

  • Qualified experience in food science, chemistry, biology, microbiology, sensory, food packaging systems, and/or food engineering.

  • 3-7 years of practical experience in Food Safety, Management of Quality, Production, or Project Management in the food industry.

  • Ability to drive continuous improvement.

  • Ability to affect change through indirect leadership.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organized and proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and conflict management skills.

  • Ability to travel infrequently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Practical experience with food quality systems including SQF, HACCP, GMPs, and other related prerequisites.

  • HACCP certification.

  • Experience in writing and implementing policies and procedures.

  • Experience in Quality Assurance specific to food manufacturing, particularly with chocolate products.

Work Environment

The work environment includes both manufacturing and laboratory settings. This role involves working with various quality assurance technologies and systems. The facility adheres to stringent safety and quality standards, and employees are expected to follow all GMP, HACCP, and other regulatory guidelines. Dress code and facility conditions are aligned with industry standards for food safety and quality.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
