Job Summary:

Prepares, portions, and delivers human milk and formula for patient feedings using aseptic technique per recipe or registered dietitian instruction. Labels and dates all formula/food products per formula room policy.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates with patient treatment team members regarding human milk and formula orders.

  • Uses clinical information systems to update patient human milk and formula orders and recipes, print labels, and generate production lists.

  • Reports discrepancies in feeding orders to treatment team and/or manager.

  • Unpacks, labels, and stores human milk and donor milk. Completes daily donor milk lot number logs.

  • Maintains adequate inventory of feeding preparation room supplies and rotates supplies using first-in-first-out (FIFO) method.

  • Maintains clean and orderly workspace, ensuring department standards are met, and all sanitary activities are conducted in accordance with federal, state and local health regulations.

  • Maintains clean equipment and cleans small wares in three compartment sink or dishwasher.

  • Keeps daily sanitation and refrigerator/freezer temperature logs.

  • Participates in department and hospital quality improvement activities.

  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constant standing and walking.

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent reaching and gripping.

  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Frequent use of smell and taste to distinguish differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors, or recognizing particular flavors and/or odors.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Occasional keyboard use/data entry.

  • Occasional driving.
