Opportunity Overview:

Our Legal Division is expanding to enhance solutions for millions of clients and their families. We are looking for an attorney experienced in emerging technologies to partner with business leaders enterprise-wide to provide legal support and consultation that creates conditions for responsible adoption of digital innovations.

Our Firm celebrated its 100th year in 2022 and we want to keep evolving our ways of success. The ideal candidate will have technology and innovation law expertise at the enterprise level with a passion for building relationships - this team is creating a new presence here. This person needs to be a strong communicator and have experience advising on and creating foundations to enable adoption of new technologies. The position requires strong collaboration, an aptitude for continual learning, demonstration of intellectual curiosity by asking questions and connecting work across multiple initiatives, ability to identify and mitigate risks in new and evolving areas of technology and law, and an ability to influence firm-wide.

The work is dynamic and requires the ability to look beyond the specific legal questions to understand the goals of the firm and aid in getting to the best solution. This role will afford the successful candidate the opportunity to be a part of a culture that inspires and supports the individual and allows them to be part of a team focused on delivering solutions.

The ideal candidate will have experience partnering organization-wide to responsibly adopt emerging technologies and digital approaches that fundamentally change the way it operates. In addition, experience working with external partners and vendors is helpful. Strong relationship skills is a must.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable the firm to explore innovative ways to serve clients by providing legal and strategic advice on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence

  • Serve as the trusted legal and strategy advisor to enterprise efforts to responsibly adopt emerging technologies by providing thought leadership on the legal implications of digital solutions

  • Provide practical advice on deployment of advanced technologies, including how to implement safeguards, train associates on risks, and align with evolving laws and regulations

  • Stay abreast of changes in the legal technology industry, including by building and/or maintaining an active presence and consult business colleagues on those changes and how they impact the firm's approach to technology

The salary range for this role is based on national data and actual pay is based on skills, experience, education, and other relevant factors for a potential new associate:

Hiring Minimum: $163886

Hiring Maximum: $279048

Skills/Requirements

  • Requires Juris Doctorate and license to practice in Missouri or an equivalent state

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility as an attorney in private practice, in the public sector, or in an in-house counsel capacity

  • At least three years' experience serving as legal and strategy advisor for emerging technology initiatives

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to delegate and mentor, and desire to work collaboratively with others

  • Possess exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity

  • Deep knowledge of how organizations effectively and responsibly adopt advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and quantum computing

  • Expert in emerging technologies and their legal implications

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complex matters

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence decisions at senior executive level of organizations

  • Strong communicator and relationship builder
